It's Monday and we had a nice day despite Lara feeling ill since Weds. The locals say that Mexico is blamed for bacteria, food poisoning, Montezuma's revenge etc, but sometimes we Canadians/Americans fly on stuffy planes in close contact & bring viruses with us. Who knows what Lara has but we've had excellent care since Saturday. (Revised a few years later that Lara was diagnosed with Celiac Disease which had nothing to do with food/bacteria etc.) The Doctor that is used by our condo is Dr. Carlos and he came to see Lara & prescribed antibiotics & pain relief for her symptoms. Since then he's checked on her a few times & decided to run some blood work to make sure he knew exactly what he was dealing with. He even came and drove us to ... read more

"Heaven" in Spanish is called "Cielo". Well we felt we found it on Saturday or if not, damn well as close to it as we could ever imagine. At our condo we have private beach privileges at an out of town beach front hotel called Al Cielo. We had to book a van to get all 7 of us to the resort & I was half grumblin' about why I wanted to pursue this for the extra cost of the van. Johnny picked us up and it was only a half hour and then we got there...WOOHOO...we arrived at this place off the highway down a bumpy road to arrive at this beautiful spot with 3 waiters standing by, in fine attire to greet us! God I love my sound judgement! We entered this rather rustic ... read more

It was a MAJOR day of fun highs and a few lows... At the restaurant where we had fresh fish the day before, we were introduced to Felipe to set up a snorkeling tour for $35 p/p. He insisted I leave a deposit but I indicated I couldn't do that as I didn't know how Rory would be feeling. (If you recall I had to leave shortly after to take Rory to the Doctor). I just didn't want to commit to a specific time the next morning till I knew her diagnosis, whether it was an ear or throat infection. The beach is littered with boat tours so we didn't need to book anything in my opinion; it would be waiting for us when we were ready. When I was gone, Felipe talked Marth into booking ... read more

"Everything is funny as long as it's happening to everyone else" ~ W. Rogers Well I guess I won't tell you how beautiful and hot today started out. It seems to be a pattern here :) Marth & I finally got to tour outside of the main town. Wow, deals, deals deals. AND we came across a woman with a fresh fruit cart selling peeled clementines & fresh fruit cups so we stopped and got some. She adds fresh cinnamon to them if you'd like that and I have to say, wow, what a fresh zingy taste all for $1.50. We bought some sandals for the girls; about $3.50 & they loved them. I bought mom a really nice summer dress which fit her perfectly. On our way back we wandered past Le Tarraya, a bar/restaurant ... read more

The day was hot, no wait, it was humid, well it was hot and humid, hot, humid & sultry...OK, sorry, that was the first line out of the movie "Throw Momma from the Train" with Billy Crystal as a frustrated writer (PS click on the pics to enlarge, really you need to do this to see the "mask" pics!) We woke again Weds. to a beautiful warm breeze off the Caribbean & before long it was quite humid. At 8:30 am we took a stroll on the outskirts of 5th avenue to see the local wares & as we strolled, we passed many beautiful sculptures & artwork that is spread throughout the town. Afterward, Marth & I went to get another one of those "yabba dabba doo" massages. It was fantastic to say the least. At ... read more

Well things "ain't so fun today...." Went to bed around 12:30 last night feeling a bit woozy, and woke sick as could be....vomited most of the night and NO not a hangover. Playa is SO safe with purified water throughout, but sometimes you can get eat something a bit off & well, I guess in my times here, it was my turn. When mom woke up & heard my situation, she came and lay down with me and got me a cold cloth, making me feel like a 9 year old again! Managed to take my old carcass to the pool today insisting I was going to try and enjoy the day with the kids somehow. I was curled up in a ball looking like something the cat WOULDN'T drag in. Well despite the best of ... read more

Hola hola!! I've added in a few pics of the last few days that went astray. (Ava & Rory doing the "straw" pick up game with the adults whom Ava beat!) Today (Mon) we started off by touring 5th Ave to get money exchanged as we all seemed to have gone through our pesos & US money. We got a glass of freshly squeesed orange juice from a cart that was THE best I've ever tasted. Around 10:30 am we headed to the beach as the kids wanted to get an early morning wave rush! We got some prime lounging chairs & it wasn't long before we were baking. Funny how we longed for the sun and when it showed up it was hot hot hot!! Mom & grandma had a morning stroll and elected to ... read more

I am SURE you are sick of the blogs, but some of you are foolish to encourage me, so here goes...(Blaine where are you, email me???) Well it was THE best day weather-wise in Playa yet. It really warmed up today with it hitting around 34C with the humidex. We had a small amount of drops this a.m. so we headed to Walmart. Whoever had that bright idea should be flayed. Being Domingo (Sun) everybody & their brother decided to be "there". As mom says, "the day of the fair is the day to be there"...Well the fair musta been at Walmart as the line ups were nuts for a bit. I'm sure the locals hate us tourists crowding the store on their one day off to shop. I walked slumped behind Martha in case of ... read more

Hola all, today is Domingo, the day of rest & family time for many of the hardworking locals. We woke around 7:30 am with the sun peeking into our room. We are praying for a full day of sun here as every day there's been cloud or very windy. (After hearing Ottawa & Crossfield got a nasty dumping of snow, all of a sudden our weather's ideal ;) Yesterday the day started nice but ended up cool & windy so we left the beach @ 2 PM & came back & sat in the hot tub with a drink. Later we took a stroll & picked up some fresh pizza & enjoyed some downtime of reading. Dinner was leftovers but it was actually a pretty good feast when we put it all together. We'd bought salad ... read more

I was rushed Sat am so here's a bit more of my update! After meeting Rick on the beach he gave us a tour of his beautiful oceanfront condo. Rick fell in love with nanna (mom) as his own mom is 90 & in a home & unable to recognize him. :( This condo is not cheap so I asked if he had a "VERY LOW season?' He said he'd give us a great rate because of Nanna. This wheelin' and dealin' I'm into is almost getting scary; turning into a used car salesman here! Rick's condo even has an elevator which is handy after all those drinks kick in. I'm so tired of carrying my old buddy Marth around after a few ;) Rick so reminded me of Gord, but not as good lookin' ;) ... read more
