Eating is one of the great pleasures of life. ~ Tuesday night I was so tired. How tired was I you ask? ;) I was so tired "my get up and go just got up and went". (Sorry but I LOVE those old comedian jokes!) But I had a grand sleep and woke feeling very refreshed yesterday. We decided breakfast on the town was on the menu so we went to this little cafe right outside our condo. Weds. morning was rather dark and threatening rain but it turned around later in the day. The cafe had a special; 50 Pesos ($3.60 CDN) for coffee and orange juice, toast and a choice of hot cakes, eggs & bacon, or a fruit platter. Not too shabby and quite filling. Al and I took a tour up fifth ... read more

"The three great elemental sounds in nature are the sound of rain, the sound of the wind in a primeval wood and the sound of outer ocean on a beach" ~ Top o' the morning to you all. It's 10 am here and overcast with high winds. I've got my fingers crossed the winds will pick up a few loud kids and their parents out of the pool and blow them about 5 miles away. This one mother is talking SO loud trying to teach her kid to swim. I'm not trying to be funny (well maybe I am) but this kid is always screaming, and whining, and complaining. The father has been bringing glass beer bottles into the pool, which is of course not allowed or smart at all. (see further on). Anyhow, he's no ... read more

Well we're here in the moment RIGHT now at Xpu-Ha Beach. This is a private beach that only takes reservations. We took a 20 minute cab (very cheaply to this place) and you get a palapa/cabana for the day, includes white shirt waiter service at your lounger. There's only 12 palapas for rent, and they are spread apart and very private. This is JUST what Al and I wanted. We are all alone! It's quiet, no crowds, no loud music, no drunken idiots(yet ;) and what a tropical vacation should be. We have already enjoyed a crispy duck salad with a soya ginger vinaigrette and fresh grapes and salad from their garden. Al had stuffed peppers with goat's cheese and pesto sauce. This private beach club is isolated. There's probably 2 miles of beach unoccupied, although ... read more

Well hello, funny running into you here again! ;) Welcome back to the old blogs! In addition to the water activities at Paradise Beach, they have a bungee trampoline. They hook you up in a harness, and lift you off the trampoline and they give you one good pull, almost like they pull you back like an elastic & let go. Well Ava got on there, all 39-40 pounds of her and I swear when he gave her the pull she dang near went up over the top of the palm trees! She LOVED it. She managed to do a somersault eventually which isn't that easy to do. Rory & Lara really enjoyed this as well, and I felt the urge to try it myself, but after my ferry boat experience on the previous blog, I ... read more

Quick note, last night we got into a rousing game of cards called President and Asshole (there are no kids reading this...) so I can say "asshole". (I even said it twice - yahooooo!) Being on a trip, we don't have all the many splendid hats we usually wear, but Lara did bring this cute little pink knitted hat from home. Unfortunately Ray ended up being the assh*ole so guess what he had to wear??? He looked pretty darn good in it. Frankly, I suspect Ray wears a similar hat like this at home...Or when he visits Paris cause he did rock it! Kids got a great kick out of seeing grandpa wearing it!! :) For those of you who know how much Bill enjoyed this particular card game, and how he could rock the worst ... read more

A sure cure for seasickness is to sit under a tree.~ Well after a week here in Playa, we went on our first big adventure. Off we went to Paradise Beach on Cozumel Island today. Cozumel is about a half hour ferry ride across the sea. We took the 8 a.m. ferry which is huge. Double decker, and holds 450 passengers, with tables, comfy seats, bathroom, bar, TVs and even a guitarist playing playing Santana! The sea was rough. HOW rough was it you ask? Well there was this poor woman that was pretty green, and ended up vomiting all over herself till they brought her a plastic bag. Lord she looked terrible & felt worse. This lasted the whole ride with this unfortunate woman tossing her cookies most of the way. You could tell her ... read more

"Como es tu dia" (how is your day?) Well, where did we leave off? OH, Martha. Well Marth had quite the deep sea fishing expedition! She was taking out by Captain and the skipper (Gilligan)....OK, it wasn't Gilligan (hee hee) but there were two of these professionals and they worked hard to get Marth her big catch! They have a line with a big lure with a single hook on it. Then they drop it down to the bottom of the ocean (around 300 feet) and then they JIG. No, that doesn't mean Irish dancing on a boat ;), it means pulling up the line sharply about 20-30 times by reeling in the line. Those guys were sweating up a storm. This is to attract the fish's attention. Then if you're lucky, it lunges at the ... read more

"On the beach, you can live in bliss". Dennis Wilson Buenos dias friends! Have you missed me? :) All's great here in this part of the world. It's almost like time stops here. I guess when you get up around 7 am, by 11 am you're thinking it's got to be at least 1 or so. (So you can have that first big drink of the day!!) We haven't been too motivated to do much. We thought Sat. would be the day to take the ferry to Cozumel and to Paradise Beach. But due to Rory having a sunburn (see later) we decided to move it to another day. So we'll just take it easy (AGAIN). If we were paid to do nothing, we'd be darn rich now! We toured around Playa yesterday, checking out more ... read more

It was another glorious day in paradise...for those of you at home suffering through freezing rain and snow, well gosh that just sucks. I won't tell you how warm it is here, but I will tell you someone had the dang nerve to say it was too hot last night when we were out listening to live music. I'll have you know we beat them with a big palm tree leaf...the nerve of it all ;) We woke a little later yesterday morning (must have been that last margarita at the fire show that did us in!). We enjoyed coffee on the patio while watching the girls swim in the pool. At 7 am Nanna and Rory were out walking the beach collecting seashells. (We're going to need our own plane to get all those dang ... read more

Hola amigos! We put in a great "first official day" here yesterday. I rang the cow bell around 7:30 am to wake those that said they wanted to take a walk on the beach. Ava found a big coconut and carried it all the way down the beach. Her new friend; Cokie! We headed down towards the ferry, to see those fruit ladies I had written about on my last trip. Being only 8 a.m. they were just setting up their stands. But one of the ladies offered to make us some fresh fruit cups. She sliced up THE sweetest pineapple and watermelon we've ever tasted. We then strolled up 5th which at that time of the day is very quiet, not its usual bustling self. We enjoyed breakfast by the pool, and had Adin our ... read more
