Geo: 36.7786, -4.10067The boys decided to go to The rock of Gibraltar for the day, Andrea and I decided all that time in a bus to see a rock really wasn't how we wanted to spend the day so the boys headed off and we had a lovely sleep in, relaxed brekkie and headed into town to look at the shops. Well that was the plan, unfortunately it was Mother's Day Sunday in Europe so most of the shops were closed. We did find a couple of smaller ladies clothing shops open and managed a couple of purchases each before catching the shuttle back toward the boat, on the way spotted a market toward the port area and fortunately the bus stopped to let a couple of people on, so we got off.Spent the next hour ... read more

Geo: 37.6057, -0.991293Our excursion for the day was entitled La Manga and Roman Theatre, what a bore! The guide was quite boring, repeating herself endlessly, gave us a chance to catch up on our sleep on the way to La Manga, which turned out to be a very pretty tourist resort on a long thin spit which has the Med on one side and some other sea on the other, very pretty but unless you were actually holidaying there a bit of a waste of time to visit. We did get out of the bus and walk up a hill to a light house, nice bit of exercise for the day and stop at a cafe for a drink and yummy pastry, I also won the race for the loo out of all the old slow ... read more

Geo: 39.4702, -0.376804Boarding for the cruise didn't start until after noon so after yesterday's pretty much aborted shopping trip we decided to fit in a couple of hours retail therapy before heading to the ship. Grabbed a taxi and headed to the diagonal mall, wandered about the shops bought a few bits and bobs, had lunch in the half closed food court best of a very limited choice was a place that looked like a more upmarket KFC drink choices were water, fizzy drink out of soda machine or beer, which we thought a little odd in a food court in a mall.Headed back to the hotel grabbed our bags and took a taxi to the port around 2.30pm. Missed the big rush of people who would have been there at noon so only queued for ... read more

Geo: 41.3796, 2.18869Laundry was first priority today otherwise we would be the smelly kiwi cruisers, after vague directions from the hotel receptionist off we went with our massively full backpack.....Stephen decided he was never backpacking! Found the laundry ......we thought ...but no was a laundry service laundry....the man who spoke no English managed to work out what we were after and pointed us in the general direction, a few streets over we decided , still wandered round lost for another five minutes before managing to explain to some ladies who also spoke no English what we were after and after much sign language and a few giggles pointed us in the right direction. A productive hour and a hot drink at a local cafe later we were ready to start our tourist day.Thought we might do ... read more

Geo: 41.3796, 2.18869Up bright and early some numb skull rang Stephens phone then my phone at 4 am let them ring once then hung up, thanks for that! Andrea and Garry wandered down to our hotel and we organised hop on hop off bus tickets. Stop is across the road from our hotel - first bus was full so had to wait ten minutes for the next one, got ourselves settled and wired for sound and sat back to enjoy the trip. We had decided that we had two must sees for the day the basilica de la Sagrada Familia and the Barcelona football ground. Had to change buses to get onto the right route for our choices, which involved another queue and wait and arrived at the basilica at around midday, took a few pics, ... read more

Geo: 41.3811, 2.18434Last half day in Dubai was a bit of a waste, my rib was the worst it has been since breaking it a week ago and I could barely move so by the time we breakfasted, and packed I was ready to sit and do not much till the transfer arrived just after midday. The same tour company did our transfer as did the other transfer and city tour, this guy was great though, chatty and interesting much more like what you would expect. Economy class for this portion of the trip and we are sitting next to a young orthopaedic surgeon from Katmandu on his way to a conference, so he and Stephen kept each other amused yakking for the first hour, before both fixating on their respective TV screens. I may as ... read more

Geo: 25.1154, 55.2013Managed to sleep most of the night but woke early, so by just after 6am we were down eating yummy omelet and chocolate bread and butter pudding for brekkie, what other countries consider acceptable breakfast choices is always interesting! We had originally planned to do a dinner safari later on In the day today but swapped it for a city tour after my wee accident. We will still do the safari but on the way home in 8 weeks hopefully my rib and shoulder will be camel riding ready by then. We were to be picked up for our tour at 8.45am after 9 we were still waiting.....we had just got the concierge to ring the tour place for us when our pick up arrived. The same tour company who provided our airport transfer ... read more

Geo: 25.116, 55.2007Stayed the night in Auckland at the Novotel Airport hotel, they very nicely gave us a late checkout until 6pm at no extra charge so we got to spend the day chilling out - our room is in the perfect position for people and plane watching. Spent an interesting half hour watching a family - mum, dad, baby, grandma and grandad trying to fit themselves, their bags and about 8 boxes, ranging in size from 60 inch tv to a standard square carton into their average size station wagon. Entertaining as hell, bags in, one box in, bags out, 3 boxes in, baby in, baby out...... repeat, repeat, same outcome, mum and dad gesturing and arguing, grandad has a turn, dad walking away, coming back, whole dance starts again, till finally he rings someone ... read more
