One of the first skills I’ve had to learn in Hanoi, was how to navigate traffic. In Hanoi, traffic consists mostly of a never-ending flow of scooters. To get across, you need to walk confidently, and predictably, and let traffic flow around you instead. It was disconcerting at first, but eventually I got the hang of it. Don’t let that scare you though – Hanoi’s busy traffic is actually part of its charm. It was a rare sight, seeing so many people on scooters. I particularly liked the ladies who rode pillion - they would sit with both legs on one side of the motorcycle, like they did in old Asian films that my dad and I used to watch.
