Valdivia Travelling is very hard work especially blending in with the locals. You just have to drink the local wine or beer-wouldn't be polite not too. Having said that,James birthday seems like yesterday when blog arrived but the date 10th Dec rings a bell. I know .It's just like Dr Who-you're in a different time dimension ! Only kidding.I know you've had some tedious long bus trips and few internet cafes. Glad you're both enjoying life, blogs are great and love photos.Like the beard James . Love to you both, take care x x x
Salutations Belated Happy Birthday to both of you.
A very appealing description.
xx
P.S. Well done Stoke City, disposing of Arsenal yesterday. Did you catch it?
and we think it's cold over here! Great ice tale, especially liked the "groaning glacier". The Tweedys have been doing a bit of extreme sledging - ok so it was only in the field over the lane with head torches on but it was enough for us. No doubt Harriet's sleepover with Ciara this Saturday may prove more of a white knuckle ride! We're going to teach Ciara how to play Rummy, am sure she will prove to be quite the card shark. We'll be playing for chocolate coins so the stakes are high!!
Lots of love
Kaaren, Mark, Jake and Hattie
The ice looking amazing. It's hard for us at home to imagine what it must be like see and experience all these fantastic
things. Who would have thought it was possible to spend nearly 2 years living the dream unless you won the Lotto. We still think you spend most off your days in the sunshine having a great time.. and ye are
We all wish we were there too.
Love
Ellen
It does what it says on the Tin Jess/James,
You need Gore-Tex if you need waterproof. It also comes in grades depending how wet you think you are going to get! I am an expert because of having to buy Mum a new waterproof coat!
The review of the glaciers is fantastic - I felt I was there - one day.
Take care, love you
P.S. started the World Football book
ACCOMODATIONS RECOMENDATIONS Hi Rachel,
We stayed in Posada Chia-Ty. It was a small basic guest house just one block away from the main square, a lovely friendly family run place. We had a double room with private bathroom for 30,000 pesos. No breakfast but having on-site the best 3-course set lunch in all of Barichara (usually about 4,000 pesos) made up for it!
FYI almost opposite was a fruit place that did the great fruit salads with granola and yoghurt or ice cream.
I don't think there are any backpacker hostels in Barichara. On the main square there was a place called Aposentos which was in the lonely planet guide (sa on a shoestring) but since that had been published the price had gone up dramatically, they told us a room would cost 80,000 pesos.
Hope you enjoy your time in Barichara, we certainly did!
Just drop us a line if there you have any other questions.
All the best,
Jess and James
ACCOMODATIONS RECOMENDATIONS Hi
We are in Columbia for 3 weeks this Easter, visiting friends who live in Bogata. We are planning a trip to Barichara but it sounds as if we should aim to be there for Easter. Can you recommend a guest house/backpackers.
Thank you
Rachel

Setting off with one way tickets to Mexico via Cuba (a two-month detour), we set ourselves the challenge of travelling through Central and South America down to the southern tip of Argentina by bus/train/boat.
We wrote and photographed all our adventures, discoveries and passions - food and football, people and pictures, wildlife and walking, books and buildings, mountains and music. We promise you won't read a boring day-to-day diary, just interesting tales from the road.
Plus for our friends with itchy feet, real backpacking tips direct from the backpack.
Hasta luego!
