reply I agree that it was worth seeing and the best part was exploring these wooden rosy beauties. Is there any parking spot like Birmingham Parking for savvy trip.
Papa New Guinea and the meaning of life This is on our short list of places to travel. I have so many more questions than answers. What an amazing opportunity. Loved the blog. Thanks for sharing
Incredible headdress Great people photos, and how special to be able to see a funeral, though too bad the wife has to lose part of her finger. I've seen photos of some old women there who have lost lots of their fingers due to the passing of their relatives--yikes! Good luck going into the jungle!
Very exotic! What a great adventure, and how wonderful that you are realizing your dream! It seems a little sad that the people now wear clothes because there are tourists visiting. I should think that since it is hot and humid, they were wiser as before when they went naked. Still, what wonderful smiles they have, and how friendly they were with you. Best wishes with your project!
bookajourney If you are travelling on the roads, the rhythm of the road gets you, you don’t have to book tickets or worry about the boarding timings, you can simply loge down a thousands of kilometres. You can make miles, go far, spend loads and stay the entire night under the roof of a tent house. But what to do if you have a different pick, say flights. You will obviously experience a different scenario though most importantly you have to book yourself a journey. Now how you go about the best domestic fares? Else how do you get the best online domestic flights? To read more visit :http://bit.ly/17dSlpk
I found your experience in the Baliem Valley interesting... My cousin and her husband were missionaries among the Dani, with her husband having grown up among them when he was a child in the 1950s and 60's. That's when most of the airfields were constructed by the villagers under missionary direction. I knew one of the pilots who flew there in the 1950's and early 1960's. He eventually flew for Air America in South East Asia during the Vietnam war. My cousin and her husband returned to New Guinea (West Irian) in the 1970's and served there for several decades. Her husband is quite a character. We called him Spear Chucker as he was quite wild. Returning to the States for college, he smuggled an alligator in a violin case. When Customs asked what was in the case, he told them an alligator. They though he was joking. Upon return to the Baliem Valley he flew an ultra light aircraft between the various villages. Once he found a Japanese Zero still in its packing crate in perfect condition. He kept the location secret. So your blog brought back many memories of his stories.
Brave girl! That looks freaking scary! You are so brave! there is no way I will get in the water with a crocodile, so well done girl! Awesome photos as well. I specially love the first one
