Teapot Dome Ah yes, the Teapot Dome Scandal. As a side-note of interest, my great-great uncle was Harry Ford Sinclair. One and the same who took part in that very ordeal. :-) I remember going through the Black Hills when I was a kid (my family was headed for Yellowstone to see the introduction of the wolves). My dad took a picture of a cow. We lived in Wisconsin and all he could do was take a picture of a cow.
My family and I went out West maybe 5 years ago, and we thought the Crazy Horse monument was pretty neat, too. Doesn't seem like they've made much progress in the last few years either.
Green River Once, on a mad-dash car drive from LA to Chicago, my sister and I slept at a rest stop just outside of Green River and then had breakfast in town at the Buckaroo Cafe. Real nice waitress there. Y'know, just in case you were curious.
why preserves are the favorite of anarchists Apparently national monuments can be declared without congressional approval (the designation typically applies to areas with less "diverse resources"). Looks like the "preserve" designation allows certain activities restricted in national parks. So go crazy with the fire!

Shoshone Falls I can see why Onathiel likes Shoshone Falls. Combined with the cascades they look like an interesting place to visit and a fun place to explore.
yikes! That "yikes" is for both the excessively hairy arm picture (the lighting really highlights that rather more than the grasshopper) AND the gigantic spider. I *hate* spiders.
yay Medora! I LOVE medora, i'm so glad you guys made the time to go see it!
Also, Yay for technology. Roadgames only work if there are more then two people in the car, in my experience. :P I, for one, am glad that technology is able to keep you guys in contact with us.
old fashion travel Let's see, people sang songs together in cars, read books, talked to each other. People played games like I Spy, looking for letters of the alphabet in order, Zoo, games with license plates, and Slug Bug.

texas falls
sounds like they were pretty poorly named. Anything named after Texas ought to be at least as big as the state itself.
