Excellent narrative and photos-big nostalgia trip for me
Loved reading this--brought back my own memories of this fantastic place. We did meet Marguerite on our visit as our group of 5 included 2 Kiwis who actually knew or were friends of Marguerite's son. I bought her book as well and found it quite interesting reading. We had fun with the carriage guys and donkey guys and horse guys who kept telling Kurt he should ride. He didn't go up to the monastery but he did manage the walk down and back--a bit slowly, You are certainly right the topography did remind me of the Bungles and also of some spots in the U.S. Southwest.

Trip Excitement
Wow, it's a great post. The trip would have been awesome. I can feel the excitement after these type of trips.I am a traveler and gone to different locations. Recently I had been to UK using a yacht that I have booked from Medwaves Charters. Looking forward to go on a trip to the Dead Sea. Will be interesting.

Excellent Petra pics!
Hi Joan and Neil, I would absolutely love to visit Jordan, a friend of mine has been spending some time thre and I hope to get there with her sooner rather than later. You spoke of there being thinner crowds due to the neighbouring conflicts; did you discuss this with any of the locals in the tourism industry? They must be feeling a some of that hit. awesome photos, you made me want to explore even more! Cheers, Emily

Petra
Hi Emily, The only ones we 'discussed' this with were a couple of the local Bedouin on site, who acknowledged the numbers were down but didn't go into detail. On the basis that my mother told me to never discuss politics or religion with strangers (and to say the Middle East is being screwed up by both would be an understatement!), we didn't really move beyond that superficial stage. If I can help in any way with future planning, feel free to get in contact. You should consider Oman - did you read my 3 blogs on there? Cheers, Neil

Our boat for the 'Jesus cruise'

Jesus Cruise
With a name like that how can one refuse. When a cruise in a wooden boat becomes a religious experience...brilliant!

Yeah, I'm actually back now as it's too hard to process blogs on the run (and no spare time anyway). Look for more blogs on Oman plus some on Israel and Petra. The latter was a blast.

Thanks Bharat. That's not what I write them for, but appreciation is always nice. I returned last night from a visit to the Middle East so over the next 2 weeks will be forwarding posts on Oman, Israel, Jordan and Qatar if you are interested. Cheers.
