24 hours in Japan and I'm so glad to share its been lovely. I am traveling with a colleague/ friend and we were able to book a direct flight from Dallas to Tokyo. After a brief stint hunkered down in the DFW bathroom to hide from a possible tornado, we made it on flight and over here. These long flights are getting tougher and tougher! We have been using the monorail to get around the city and have visited the Shibuya scramble - apparently the biggest crossing in the world, walked around the city a bit and had Ichiban style Ramen. Many restaurants here run on a vending machine type system which makes it all very easy. The Ichiban style was interesting because you go into these small cramped spaces and sit up against a partition ... read more

Today we visited these amazing monasteries built high up in the mountains by those practicing the Greek Orthodox faith. While we saw several, we actually walked around the monastery of Meteora (for men) and the St. Stephens (for women). We were able to invest ourselves in the history of the apostles and the ways in which religion is still alive and well in the area today. After that humbling experience we drive back to Athens where we found ourselves now. Tomorrow we fly home and I'll take great memories with me. Greece has been good to us in many ways and it has quickly become a favorite place on the planet. ... read more

On day 3 of our road trip we had the good fortune to visit the Delphi ruins and see the temple of Apollo, the Olympic training area, and one of the best museums I've ever seen. The walk was hot, but so worth it. On the way to Kalamaka we stopped to see a monument to a battle between Sparta and the Persians. If you're interested in Greek history or you've seen the 300 you would find this site fascinating!... read more

What a day! After a wonderful breakfast we made our way to the home of the Olympics where we spent most of the day touring and learning about the history and mythology of the area. I didn't personally sprint through the stadium but you bet your boopy other Americans in the area did! After a brief stop at a famous bridge we drive through to Delphi where we find ourselves tonight. I have pictures for you!... read more

Europe » Greece » Pelopennese » Epidaurus June 20th 2022

We are on the road baby! But I can't seem to upload pictures at this time so I'll give you a stop by stop recap. I will pay more pics as I'm able. After catching our bus in Athens we initially stopped and saw the Corinth Canal, a human-made structure which connects the Aegean and Ionion sea. It looks exactly like a scene from the old Jason and the Argonauts film. Very cool. Then on to Epidaurus, a world famous theater that sits next to a very old hospital. We could test out the theater acoustics - you really can speak normally at the bottom and have it heard way up at the top. It makes you feel a part of the entire theater scene from so long ago. Speaking of so long ago, our tour ... read more

What a beautiful day to be in Athens - the weather is perfect, the good is good, and we are smack in the middle of it all in the City Centre. We purchased tickets for the hop-on-hop-off tours and took a drive throughout the entire city seeing the sites. We stopped at the Acropolis and Parthenon and walked the hill up to appreciate the home of the gods as well as the view of the entire city. It is a beautiful site you truly have to see to appreciate. We were also very fortunate in that we were here for Pride Week and through sheer serendipity weran into a large festival celebrating the LGBTQ+ community. Enjoy the pics -there will be more, I just can't seem to add them all now. ... read more

We made it! It has been way too long since I've been able to hop the pond and see some international sites, so I am very happy to be visiting Greece with my cousin Christina. We will be sticking primarily to the interior and Athens on this week-long trip and I'll post pics as I can. For our first day off the plan we got into our hotel after a long ride from the airport. Because I couldn't travel for so long we splurged on a taxi vs using the local bus and I'm glad we did as we got to the see the city, the olive trees, and a bit of how traffic works here (it isn't too terrible, really). We are jet lagged for sure, but got out for a long walk, some dinner, ... read more

North America » United States » Maine » Rockland May 27th 2022

I had a wonderful experience visiting Maine last week. I was invited to stay with a couple friends who have family with a house on the island of Vinalhaven, which if off the coast from a town called Rockland. Pronounced vine-el-haven, the island has a lobster industry and the island wasn't overrun with touristy stuff even though Memorial weekend is apparently when their season gets started. I had my first fresh oysters and am a huge fan! So, one fairy ride from the mainland and I was on the island with my friends! They were so kind as to take me for various hikes around island to see the beautiful views, smell the sweet air, and get a feel for the place. I'll be back - such a beautiful place.... read more

North America » United States » Texas » San Antonio May 5th 2022

I had the opportunity to visit San Antonio recently with a friend and explore what they had to offer. I wanted to share a few pictures with you all as it is a beautiful place. I don't have pictures of the Alamo here as I visited it and completed a full tour a couple years ago. Initially we visited the "Nowhere Bookstore", an independent bookstore created by author Jenny Lawson. We then followed the Missions Trail and visited three of the Spanish missions found in the area. An evening stroll on the Riverwalk - San Antonio's prize walkway that runs for miles throughout town. There are some lovely sculptures and we were looking specifically for bats as the area is known for having massive numbers of Mexican free-tailed bats. We didn't have luck with the bats ... read more

North America » United States » Arkansas » Bentonville October 15th 2019

This month my friend Bekki and I took a road trip up into the northwest part of the state of Arkansas - into the beauty that is the Ozarks. Our destination was the War Eagle Caverns, a set of privately-owned caves with a lakeside entrance. The tour was beautiful as was learning a little about the Corp of Engineers project that created Beaver Lake to fuel industry (think Tyson chicken) in the area. This was Walmart country and their presence is felt throughout the area. Crystal Bridges, a beautifully designed museum with American Art, was fantastic to visit and was free due to the Walton's largesse. In addition, we stopped to see the first Walmart and the Walmart museum. There is also a Native American museum in the area that had some interesting pieces and was ... read more
