National Geographic Experience
Still wishing I was in your backpack. Seems like you are enjoying the cuisine and walking off the pounds. The photos are so colorful in South America. It does not look like winter at all. I am spending my summer vacation looking for employment, a never ending task in this town. The Alliance Data job fell through, a better fit with another candidate. So much for finding a real job. Be glad you are gone and enjoying life.

Love the kids' clothing w/ all the colors and patterns; everyone's hats are great too! The scenery seems like a different planet. Saw Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" tonight at the Little Arts cinema and am surprised by how much the earth has warmed up - - what doesn't go under water will look like some of the arid photos you've taken. . .

HDTV
I've been watching a travel program on HDTV that is currently showing a series from Peru. Last week was the Sacred Valley. Today was the pre-Inca mounntain site of Kuelap, called by the peruvians the next Macu Picu. Sad to see that all the cloud forests are being cut down. Take care, Edward

The lonely Planet experience
Sounds like you two are living the lonely planet travel guide. It is a pleasure to travel along with you. I am looking forward to all the insights, so perhaps one day I can do a similar trip. It is the 4th of July here and it is hot and humid. Interesting light shows the last few days. So far, no large wild fires.

am I jealous!
sounds absolutely wonderful and I think it wise to jump off and let the world go by! just back from Chicago and it was a good trip spending time w/ mom who turns 91 this summer. I just opened email from Martha and her dad passed away last Saturday; can't seem to reach her. hot and humid here, which is unusual, so hopefully will make it to the water for some relief. met a bartender in Chicago who grew up in Mexico City and knew San Miguel de Allende very well - - fun to talk with! safe travels! (the ole lose-the-passport routine does not allow you to even think about not coming back to the states!)

Glad to know you are safe and enjoying life!
Thanks for letting us know that the both of you are alive and well. Is it cold? I like the idea about Spanish for $8.00 an hour. If I was taking Spanish, we could converse. I should be this summer. Since it is close to winter Solstice, it must be getting dark early. I like your diet. Looking forward to those photos! I will be thinking of you and dreaming about traveling. Mary Beth
