Europe » Germany » Bavaria » Rothenburg ob der Tauber June 27th 2013

We left the Nurburg Ring this morning and headed to Stuttgart "the home of the Porsche" and visited the Porsche Museum. We saw an interesting exhibit about the 50 year history of the 911 series sports car. From there we took the Autobahn to Rothenburg. This was not a part of our original plan to stop here but we are sure glad we did. The medieval city is beautifully preserved and exactly what we were hoping to experience in Germany. The city center was protected during WWII and most of the original buildings from the early 1300's still stand. Some of the buildings are currently under renovation but we still we able to see most of what Rothenburg had to offer. The town is surrounded by a towering wall that you are able to walk around, ... read more

Bright and early today we said "Bonjor" to the beautiful city of Paris and off to Germany we went! Our mission for the day was to successfully drive the Nurburg Ring in a BMW M3. This is one of Matts Bucket List items in life. The only way to explain this experience is "fast and furious" through all of the hundreds of twists and turns, changes in elevation and speed. It was a once in a lifetime experience for Matt and he was thrilled to be able to drive four laps on this 12 mile public race track. It was also great for Erica to ride along side him to share this experience to understand why he loves this sport. We attached pictures for your enjoyment!... read more

Europe » France » Île-de-France » Versailles June 25th 2013

Today we spent a day at the Palace and Gardens of Versailles. We had a bit of a challenging start to the day by not finding the correct train station, which caused us to arrive an hour later than we had planned. Once we arrived to the overwhelming crowds and grounds the two smaller palaces were closed till noon. In addition we a 1hour 49 minute wait to get into the Chateaux (the Louie XIV palace)....yes that is correct!!! Rick Steves was right, this place is a zoo. But we did it and it was totally worth it. All that practice line waiting in disney world really paid off. We attached some pictures of this opulent massive palace. The grounds and gardens were beautifully kept and picturesque. It was certainly worth it and a full day ... read more

Europe » France » Île-de-France June 24th 2013

Our day started out with a delicious quiche from a local street bakery next to our hotel and we were off to the Louve. Our visit included most of the more famous works of art including; Venus de Milo, Athena in the gallery of statues, Winged Victory, Mona Lisa, The Coronation of Napoleon, La Ingres Odalisque, and Michelangelo's two "Slaves." The Louve was huge and could take a few weeks to actually sit and learn about each work of art. We really enjoyed our visit and hope to make it back again. Next we put our love lock on the bridge next to the Louve with our names and wedding date! Like tradition says, we through the keys in the Seine....There were thousands of other locks on the bridge, a very cool picture. we visited some ... read more

Matt and I arrived in Paris this morning around 6:30am...we had two great flights on Iceland air. Ironically yesterday in Iceland they had no darkness, it was a full day of light. So when we took off at 1:00am it was still sunny out. A crazy feeling! Our plan was to get our bearings in Paris today, learning how to get around the city and know where most places were located. We arrived at our hotel around 7:30AM, ate breakfast at a cafe next to our hotel and immediately went to the Eiffel Tower. We rode the elevator to the top and the views were great, we were amazed how large the tower actually was in person. From there we walked along the Seine river about 3 miles to the Notre Dame Cathedral, this building was ... read more
