We took the most popular long distance mode of transportation in India (and the largest in the world), the Indian Railways, to visit my cousins and relatives in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh (literally meaning central state in Sanskrit). We took Taj Express, an express train originally designed exclusively for travelers going to Taj Mahal. I think it has lost its exclusivity since ( Taj Express ). One must travel via India Railway to experience the culture. Weather has been great. between 10-25 degrees Celcius. The train trip to central India was pleasant. The fact that father forgot the ticket at home did not bother me too much but mom was a stressed It is very awkward for me carry a camera around so I took only limited sets of pictures. No traveling at the moment but still overwhelmed by the fast pace of life, the crowds, the traffic and the noise in Delhi. The news is full of double digit inflation, corporate takeovers and disturbing scandals. I guess the Delhi I grew up in is now a distant past. To avoid traffic I have been running/walking before sun is out. It is nice. I wake up to a 5:30 ringing of temple bells, go for my run or walk while it is still dark and foggy. It is amazing how much of the city is already up that early in the morning. It is rather warm here compared to Sacramento (15 degrees Celsius). My first blog entry ever --> The flight to New Delhi was long and tiring. Final leg was full. Got kicked a lot by a 2 year old. I wouldn't have minded except for that rare headache. Believe it or not, reading the latest economist, Harvard Business Review and The New Yorker actually helped :) The front cover of the economist is hilarious ( The Economist Front Cover ). And HBR articles are still as interesting as it was when I was in B-School. The New Yorker special edition on cartoons of the year is a bit like reading Far Side.
