"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." - Mark Twain

"What I want, what I need, is everything that I'm 'supposed to be, I have my hopes, I got my dreams, I have to fight for what is right for me, all the things that I expect, I take them up and have no regrets, life's too short, there's not rain check, just one shot at it is all ya' get, I wanna live before I die, dont want the world to pass me by"- TESLA

ZANZIBAR 1 week of lovely beaches, great food and friendly people after one week of safari in Tanzania. We start in Stone town and move on to Nungwi beach, where we stay at a very quite beach on the North east side. We stay at Sazani beach accomodation (http://sazanibeach.com), a very quite family style run place with only approx 10 rooms/ huts with beach view. For the ones who like it very quiet and want to have their own beach I can recommend this place. However due to high tide in the late afternoon & evening, it's not possible to walk along the beach to go to other places for drinks and food. Therefore, we often go to the North west side of Nungwi (close to Nungwi village) and Kendwa to see the sunsets and be ... read more

no interest to read? then just click on the first picture to enlarge and go on a visual journey by browsing through. Interested in getting some more background info? Well be my guest and continue reading then ... TANZANIA Tanzania & Zanzibar, the stereotypical 2 weeks vacation, especially popular with honey mooners, families and rich white old people. Why did I go? Tanzania offers the most diverse wild life and a safari trip was still on my bucket list. Besides I have never been to Africa before, expect from Tunesia, if that counts. So here we go ... Summary Overal seeing all the wild animals you usually only get to see on national geographic is amazing and worth the trip. However, once done I can take it of my list and don't feel the urge to ... read more

South America » Peru June 10th 2011

Pictures say more than 1000 words. Therefore click right on the first pic to browse through. If you are interested in more info, please feel free to flick through my brief summary of our trip Peru, there's a lot to do: Peru offers a lot of diversity, from mountains, beaches, deserts and jungle, to colonial towns and ruins. All in all the Gringo trail with the most famous sights can be done within 2.5 weeks, in case you do only short treckings. We spent 3.5 weeks, but felt it was one week too long: we wanted to spend the last week on a beach, however you don't have to come to Peru for the beaches, unless you come for the surf. In our case we neither had wind nor swell, nor night life, as we stayed ... read more

From Russia with work For work I travel to Russia, doing ethnographic reserach on mothers and babies with home visits in Moscow and St Petersburg. In St Petersburg I stay with a family, friends of a friend, and experience Russian family life. Overall a great experience and not my last time in this huge country.... read more

Asia July 23rd 2010

From Mongolia to Colombia - 12 countries in 10 months During the last 10 months I have had the time of my life. I have seen and done truly amazing things in 12 different countries around the globe witnessing the beauty of life. I enjoyed every minute of it (well not every, but most of it) and I will never forget the great experiences I made and amazing people I met. Except some smaller injuries (mostly surf related), a nasty foot infection, a minor ferry crash without any injuries, and a theft(attempt), all went well during the entire trip. Again I learned to enjoy and focus on the simple things in life: thereĀ“s nothing better than watching a sunset on the beach, or (scuba)diving into a completely different world under water and being part of it. ... read more

South America July 15th 2010

Click on the first pic to enlarge and browse through. The big finale After weeks of figuring out where to go to as last part of the trip, I finally decide to go to Colombia. Researching the tourist attractions on the web, I don't find many convincing factors, especially after all I have seen so far. Furthermore it is rainy season at the time. Why still Colombia? Because there has been a hype about it for the last couple of years: everybody who has been there is absolutely positive: it's supposed to be the best country in South America, the people are so friendly and it's not so touristy as many people still think it's a dangerous place. These are the main arguments I heard so many times, so I had to check it out for ... read more

North America June 15th 2010

Warning: The picture quality drastically decreases from now on as in this part of the world I ll travel 'light' and therefore safer with only a point n shoot cam. Still I tried to capture the locations I have been to and some interesting moments. Feel free to browse through the pix by clicking on the first one. Declining wanderlust? After 8 months of traveling I feel first signs of exhaustion. Traveling on my own now without being able to speak Spanish doesn' t make things easier. I start my solo trip by revisiting Playa del Carmen and Isla Mujeres for a few days to plan the rest of my trip. My main goal is to learn a bit of Spanish and try surfing again. Therefore I head to Mexico's pacific coast. In the beginning I ... read more

LALA - land We have a stop-over and I have friends there, therefore we decide to stay a couple of days, my second visit after 18 years. LA is an interesting place: it's close to the beach with good surf, has mountains close by and the weather is pretty nice most of the times (expect when we arrive of course). There are (wannabe) actors everywhere, you recognize many places from movies and TV shows and there is also the chance of spotting celebs. However Lala land is a bit too massive for us. We stay at my friend's crib in Beverly Hills (thanks Kurt!), check out LA downtown, Hollywood and Venice. Venice beach looks pretty familar, as it is the location of many films and TV shows like Baywatch. It is also the Mecca of Body ... read more

Oceania » Cook Islands April 10th 2010

Warning: The pictures might be a bit repetitive, but I simply just can't get enough of beautiful beaches. Although I tried to capture the beauty of the Cooks Islands with my photos, it is an impossible task, as in reality they are even much more stunning. Get a glimpse of paradise by clicking on the first picture to enlarge it and browse through them all Cooks Islands - Islands of Desire As most ATW travelers have a stay-over at Fiji and we haven't heard many positive stories about this holiday destination, we decide to go to the Cook islands instead. We stay one week on the main island & capital Rarotonga and one week on Aitutaki, a very small island surrounded by one of the world's most beautiful lagoons. The stay on the islands marks the ... read more

Oceania » New Zealand March 28th 2010

Check out the pix by clicking on the first one to enlarge it and browse through the rest. As I lost almost all pix I took in the North island due to memory card crash, most pix show the South island. New Zealand really has got it all: volcanos, mountains, glaciers, lakes, beautiful beaches, fjords, rain forests, great diving, surf spots, lots of extreme & outdoor sport opportunities and great natural wild life. The best part is that the country is very compact and the scenery constantly changes. Driving by car or camper van, which is an absolute must, is a dream as the roads in this scarcely populated country are almost empty (especially in the South island), so you can drive at your own speed and have lot's of opportunities to stop, get out of ... read more
