Part 1: Today we travelled to Chur. We decided to leave Zurich a bit early as we were already wide awake. So we walked down to the train station (down all the stairs so not as bad) which warmed us up as it's freezing outside! Think it snowed outside last night (all the trees on the mountain close by have snow on the tops). We got to the train station and found out we could take an earlier train, so instead of freezing outside we decided to get on the train. The train ride was beautiful, it went past all the snowy top mountains, farmland and lakes, and it even snowed at one point! We got off the train in Chur and immediately got lost again. Luckily we found a map so we took a picture ... read more

We made it to Zurich! After 32.5hrs of flights, navigating of airports and lugging our bags up multiple flights of stairs, we made it to our hotel where we were very pleased to find they had a room available at 9am in the morning. Our first flight was really good, we had more leg room than we thought we were going to get and we watched multiple movies to try and keep us awake until Hong Kong. The Hong Kong airport is massive so we walked around for ages looking at all the different shops, ordered a bit of food, and basically tried to keep ourselves awake until the next flight. As soon as we got on the flight we fell asleep. We'd planned to stay awake until we finished our first meal but we fell ... read more

South America » Brazil » Rio de Janeiro » Rio de Janeiro » Ipanema August 26th 2014

Sorry I haven't blogged lately, any spare chance I get I sleep or go out to the beach! So on Sunday morning we did a tour in one of the favelas which is what they call the slums in Rio. We had to be very careful as we are a bit of a target waking around the slums being a tourist. It was one of my highlights in Rio, just seeing that side of it was cool. After the tour we went to a soccer match (the same place the world cup was held). The team we decided to go for won so we were pretty pleased! After the soccer match we went out for dinner and then spent most of the night dancing. The next day we were supposed to go hang gliding but the ... read more

I am so glad I went to a good travel doctor.....I didn't really need anything from all the meds he gave me but a lot of the people I have been traveling with have needed it! From persistent productive coughs to bad diarrhea, I am now the drug dealer on the trip. I don't like giving out drugs unless it's absolutely necessary due to side effects and it's better if your body can fight it anyway. But some people can get really sick if your body is struggling to fight it. If it were a hospital situation we would be doing sputum and other tests to determine the right bug and have the correct treatment, but it's not always possible to see a doctor when traveling. So hopefully some of us get better quick! Anyway today ... read more

South America » Brazil » Rio de Janeiro » Búzios August 22nd 2014

Yesterday we didn't do much as most of the time was spent traveling to Buzios in Rio De Janeiro. Buzios is another beach area in Rio. But today we had a few day to do anything we want so some of us took a water taxi and got a ride to one of the nice beaches in Buzios. We spent a few hours there just relaxing and then we came back to the main beach where I did some much ovedue shopping!!! Then we just chilled out at the pool in the afternoon and are going out for dinner tonight. Sorry no interesting stories today as was a very relaxing day. But tomorrow I go to the main part in Rio! Looking forward to it, but also a bit sad ad my trip will be ending ... read more

This morning we woke up and went to the Argentinian side of Iguassu Falls (we are staying on the Brazillian side). From there we went for a walk and then got picked up in a truck where we were taken to the rapids in the falls. We got on a boat and headed up the river where the falls were. The driver drove us into the waterfalls and we got saturated! It was such a great experience, luckily we were warned that we would get soaked, but I got the feeling the lady in front of me had no idea as she screamed and complained every time we went into the waterfalls, it was quite funny. After that we got to walk around the falls again on the Argentinian side and then we went back over ... read more

On my previous blog post I didn't really have time to explain what we did later on the day as I knew we wouldn't have any time. I was kind of sick of Buenos Aires to be honest as it just seemed like another city with little culture compared to other stuff I had seen on the trip. I was very keen to move on to the next city as I thought I had seen all that I could. But finally last night we got to experience some of the rich culture of Buenos Aires. We went to a Tango show where we watched professionals dance and then later we had a Tango lesson. I was slightly nervous add I have two left feet, but I didn't manage to trip, fall or die and I actually ... read more

South America » Argentina » Buenos Aires » Buenos Aires August 17th 2014

Yesterday I met up with a friend from my previous tour as we were both in Buenos Aires and wanted to see more of the city. We went to a museum which had art by Van Gough, but I found it kind of boring (I'm not an arty person). After that we went to the markets and visited a graveyard.....which is one of the biggest attractions in Buenos Aires due to the amount of mausoleums they have there (it's like a small city). After that I over ate again and then I went shopping by myself. I'm sure I've put on 5kgs already, but I'm happily still eating large meals and don't care at the moment. Last night I met up with some people from contiki and we tried some steak, empanadas and ice cream. Today ... read more

South America » Argentina » Buenos Aires » Buenos Aires August 16th 2014

This morning I woke up and wasn't feeling the best, ate something funky last night that my stomach did not like! Later I had my daily omelet and croissant and then tried to figure out where the nearest shopping mall was. I was in heaven! The shopping mall was awesome, but unfortunately only had an hour so will have to go back tomorrow! Later in the afternoon I took a tour around Buenos Aires, I’m doing one with contiki but wanted to see more of it earlier. We went all over Buenos Aires including the colourful area of La Boca. I was going to write down the cool places I went to but I can't get onto the tour groups website, so you'll just have to believe me that the places I went to which I've ... read more

South America » Argentina » Buenos Aires » Buenos Aires August 15th 2014

Last night I arrived at my hotel to find out I got an upgrade! And the best part is I have a spa bath!!!!! In the morning I slept in, had an omelet and croissant thing and then walked around the streets. The first thing I thought when I got to Buenos Aires is that it looks like a great place to shop! But walking around the streets around my hotel I found everything was so expensive and you know it is when they have their own security guards in every shop! Must find some cheaper shops somewhere. Anyway I did splurge on laundry at my hotel so kind of don't want to spend anything else at the moment. Later in the day I went to a street art and graffiti tour as Buenos Aires is ... read more
