1 July: Nyakahanazi to Mwanza, Tanzania A long driving day from the village to our transaction lodge where we pitched our tents on the southern shore of lake Victoria. The area was gorgeous as our tents were right along the lake. The evening was amazing as we cooked hamburgers with guacamole and salsa which turned out amazing! We relaxed the night away watching the World Cup game. 2 July: Mwanza to The Grumeti One of the worlds greatest wonders as we spent the night on the outskirts of the Serengeti National Park in the Gremeti Conservancy. Our night game drive was cancelled because the trucks ended up not being available for us to use. 29 June: Kisoro, Uganda to Kigali, Rwanda Crossing the boarder went well with the Uganda side being quick and the the Rwanda side took more time as they searched the truck and a few individuals needed to wait for visas. After we crossed the boarded, we drove for about thirty minuets before stopping to pick back up Kanyo our guide and two new members to the truck, Rachel from New Zealand and Bob from Australia. At the same spot, one of David's friends came and changed money for us, then we were off for the three hour drive to the capital. Arriving early afternoon we visit the Genocide Museum where we learn about the tragic details of Rwanda genocide in 1994. 27 June: Kisoro, Uganda Today is the day we trek to the gorillas!!! We are hiking at Bwindi impenetrable forest. Up early, we had a cold breakfast where I again enjoyed fruit with peanut butter on rice cakes. My packed lunch for the day also ended up being rice cakes with peanut butter and some crisps I had picked up. 24 June: Queen Elizabeth National Park Our day started off early as we decided to do the trekking for the chimpanzees in Kailnzu forest. Once we arrived to find our guides for the trek, we had to split in two groups. Our group was Michael, Lionus, Samantha, Charlotte, Sophie, Dave, Tamara, Nichole, and myself. We started a long hike downwards through the forest. It was slippery along he way but an enjoyable hike. After about an hour and a half we were able to spot the chimpanzees. They were up in the trees right above us, about four or five of them. Samantha got some great photos of them and I had a few. Was amazing to see. 20 June: Jinja, Uganda Today was our day of white water rafting on the Nile. so exciting! Off at 8AM we stopped by the rafting place for briefing, life vests, and helmets. We were then off with a take away breakfast of fruit and tortilla rolls ( I had just the fruit). While in the truck, Samantha and I were seated in the back with two guides. I was talking to Ben about working with the rafting company and his life in Uganda. He was excited that if he did well this year, either this August or next, he may go to Colorado which was fun to talk to him about having been from there.
