Wow wow wow Hi Mike and Helen.
WOW ! ! !
You two should have told me you needed someone to carry your bags for 12 months! I am EXTREMELY jealous. Your trip is absolutely amazing. Take care. I hope you had a nice Christmas.

Christmas Cheer Mike and Helen, I've been reading your installments over the last few months and not had the chance to make any comments about it, so as I read this one today on Christmas Day morning I wanted to say thank you for keeping us all up to date on what you've done. India looks to be a fantastic place and certainly another place I'd love to visit - the Kuari Pass looks amazing and I love the photos you've posted. It's brightened up my morning so far. Thanks for some fantastic blogs in 2010 - looking forward to more in 2011.
Nicola, German y Veronica Linda!!
We were having dinner together, German y yo acabamos de comprar nuestros tickets a Ecuador para Abril and we were telling Nicola about our plans and I pense, donde estara Helen?? Tal vez podemos vernos ahi!!
Y entonces vine a ver tu blog y es tannnn wonderful what you have written that I feel tan orgullosa de que estas viviendo all those experiences for yourself!!
Veronica
Rubbish Tip The bits we saw of India were the best and worst of life. I know what you mean about Delhi - it has few if none redeeming features and constantly smells of smoke, piss and cow shit. Did you go to Varanassi? There were some lovely German bakeries there. Rajasthan sounds brilliant
Ahhh! memories Great stuff, love the pictures, it seems like you are having the most amazing time, enjoy every second. I take it that you found the "Rolling Stoned" bar and the luxury of gigantic bottles of Chang Beer on Phi Phi?
I guess the only thing that you missed out on was a dude coming up to you asking if you "wanna see live s*# on a flying motorcycle?".
Come on, I give you sunset price?
Wow In all the time in Malaysia I've never been to the Highlands - it looks fabulous and will have to try if I go back there. Love your photos from the Perhentian Islands, again another place to add to a check list of places to visit :-) I've passed through Kota Bharu (NewCastle), but only really saw the airport and the roads there, but intrigued by the blue rice.
Reading you blog makes me think I need to take a long holiday...
Langkawi - Island of Eagles I have to agree with Andrea, of all the places I've been to in Malaysia I found Langkawi the most beautiful and relaxing place to be. Reading your blog makes me wish I was back there now - doing a bit of kayakking. I also enjoyed Penang too - glad you've found it as interesting as I did - Hawker stalls are an ace way of getting sustenance and people watching. Night clubs were an interesting foray into the unknown too.
Enjoying the blogs - glad you're having a great time and hope Mike's bronchitis has cleared up by now. BTW- I seem to remember that Langkawi means Island of Eagles, which if you're lucky you'll have seen there.
So jealous ... Helen and Mike - I've just dipped into your lives to catch up on the last few weeks of your travels. Have to psyche myself up to doing this as invariably leads to prolonged depression for days after!! It's just lovely to read all about your travels, you both write so well. Makes an extremely pleasant change from child care anyway ... Cx
Feelin it Totally with you on Penang and Langkawi. These are the first places on your trip we've been. Feelin the Kickapoo joy juice. i remember drinking it at every opportunity. Its the connoisseur's choice.
Life of royalty It seems you are having the life of royalty glad to see it. Hope you are bagging lots of interesting recipes for La Fosse at Cranborne. Though I am not sure how the subjects of the Cranborne Chase would take to Joy Juice, what does it contain or should we not ask/
Keep up the posts even if we have not had a chance to reply to all!!
Adios

Malaysia Hi Mike - glad to hear you are enjoying your trip! Your stories of China were fascinating. I can only imagine how intense that part of your trip was, based on all of your experiences.
I just read through your recent post on Malaysia and since we were just in Langkawi and Penang in January I thought I'd write a short comment. Langkawi was our favourite place through our tour of SE Asia, it's so relaxing and absolutely beautiful! Malaysia is a great country to visit.
Cheers and enjoy the continued travels. It's great to read through your blog! :)
Bus Rides!! It sounds like the chinese driving style will put you in good stead for when you get to India. Drivers who have no fear of death can make for a fun trip!!
China So nice to read your blog update, I even read it with an Irish / British accent. The parts of China you're visiting sound and look amazing. Not sure if i'd be keeping up with your trekking though. Looking forward to your next post.

Re: Great 'Phalanx' Deployment Either Helen got me a new dictionary for my birthday, or I didn't write this blog. It was the word i was most impressed with in the whole blog though.
If it makes you feel any better, I have a weird altitude thickness type thing, a persistent cough, and we have both had the runs on and off for the last 5 weeks.....but still loving it!
Mike
Great 'Phalanx' deployment! Woooaaahhh! I'm not keeping up here, so please stop me when I go wrong. So your on a 'VODKAtrain' through Asia, surprised by "dizzying arrivals", "like a dream when everything has been scrambled", "flapping our arms wildly" at locals,....disapproving men in white coats......? Guys, - don't call me Colombo (& don't tell me all that time at University was wasted) - but don't you know when you're wasted?!? You should return the same way SOOOOOBBBBBEERRRR and then let us know your experience - (Yeah, "CLUE", - you'll need to get on train WITHOUT a 40%proof prefix).
PS - Mike, I'm very pleased (particularly under the 'circumstances') with the appropriate use of your 'PHALANX'. I'm glad you are better controlling it's outings, and I'm sure Helen approves of your improved diction.
;-)
Cheers, John (PS - I'll make it worth your while if you just lie and tell me Yunnan isn't worth visiting)
RE: Caption Comp Well Done Jim! If we had to guess who would get it right, you would have been right near the top of the list. We are going to send you a special bonus one from China.
See you in Delhi!
Caption comp Thanks for keeping me entertained for while! I believe the brands are McDonalds, Starbucks, Pizza Hut and a guess on the last....Costa Coffee!
Take care you crazy kids.

Amazing Trip Mike,
Amazing thing you are doing. So jealous. One question? Who is this Helen chic? I like her already. Around the world in a year. I hope that means you are visiting the U.S.A. and will be stopping by for a visit. I just may join you for a while. All the best. Have fun!!! And stay in touch my friend.
Daisy Dukes I believe those tight denim shorts are known as daisy dukes ( as in 'of hazard'). I know this because Katy Perry alludes to it in her popular music song in the charts right now with snoopy snoopy dog dog. What is missing is a 'bikini on top' however I suspect this man will have worn a 'mankini' on more than one occasion. Great pics so far!!
Update since our last trip ended: We got back to the UK from our fantastic year travelling in June 2011. We spent the summer in the UK catching up with friends during a "glorious" English summer. To keep the thrill of discovering new places alive, we decided to look for work outside the UK, so home since October 2011 has been The Hague in The Netherlands, which we are looking forward to exploring in the near future.....
Oh, and of course there is the small matter of a wedding to organise!
Watch this space for future travels and thanks to everyone who has checked in over the last y... full info
