Buonasera, Well I'm sitting in the lounge of this fabulous converted moastery in Yucay in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, there is thunder and lightening all around me, preparing myself for the trek to the mythical Inca city of Machu Picchu at 4.am in the morning.....I feell so honoured to be here. Today was spent exploring more of Cuzco, especially the St Blas area ( known as the artists quarter ) so I felt right at home there. Some schoolchildren were practicing their English so came across and asked me some questions..........brilliant. There was also a demonstration by a class of children about saving plants, and how important they are to the enviroment. This afternoon about 5pm left Cuzco and came with a car and driver to Yucay. What stunning scenery which leads me to ... read more

Early start.....well it just continued on from being in the airport....took off a little delayed but was pleased that I was given a comp. upgrade to business class ( there was no first on Taca Airlines ). What a fabulous flight and a brill breakfast to boot (after the dross on Iberia ).The landing was interesting because of the position of Cuzco in the valley, he had to make a steep bank left and approach tilted left before finally levelling off before landing. V. small airport but the guy from the hotel was waiting for me with my name on the board.Ten minutes later and there I was at the Sonesta Posadas Del Inca. Nice welcome with a cup of coca tea ( very medicinal-we are at almost 12000 ft!! ) and a room with an ... read more

Buonasera, If you followed my last blog, here is the update.....well they did not cancel my flight....many others were, so here I am in the airport lounge in Lima Peru. The flight.....what can I say....dont fly Iberia!!!!!!The plane was so old there were not even tv screens in the chair backs. The seats were so narrow and cramped and the flight was full to bust. The food........I know that airline fare is not the best.....but this takes the biscuit(no pun intended) for being the worst I have ever had....the main course....pasta, so overcooked that it resembled infant mush, followed by a piece of fruit sponge...about five hours later a cheese sandwich which I would have been embarrassed to serve, and finally a cheese and ham panini which must have been days old.....shocking!!!! The screens that they ... read more
