After experiencing the windy city, Matt and I decided we had enough time to head back down south to visit the beautiful states of Kentucky and Tennessee. I had been to Kentucky before for the Derby, and I really wanted to show Matt Churchill Downs and some more of horse country (aka HEAVEN for me!) We drove only about 4 hours to Louisville and had no idea what we were going to do once we got there. It was a Saturday night so we knew something had to be going on. Matt was on his handy-dandy iPhone looking up things to do when he came across something that sounded pretty entertaining to say the least. Every year, three weeks before the Kentucky Derby, there is a huge festival that hosts the opening ceremonies. This festival has ... read more

Now I’m sure many of you are saying to yourselves right now “Wow, Matt and Kati sure have been having a great trip going through cities like Miami, New Orleans, New York City. I wonder why they want to spoil the whole thing by going to Cleveland?” A very fair question and I have a perfectly legitimate answer. I haven’t seen my mother’s side of the family in over 10 years. The last time I saw my uncles and cousins I was probably 10 and now the only things we know about each other is through facebook and I haven’t seen my grandparents since I graduated High School. I also really wanted this side of the family to meet Kati since my grandparents had only met her through the video phone and once again my cousins ... read more

After saying goodbye to the Samatulski family, we were headed towards Boston, but me being the big time gambler that I am had to stop at at Mohegan Sun, which was described as the best Hotel and Casino in the area. This structure stood in the middle of a large field all by itself and it was freakin huge. It had 3 different casinos, 20 restaurants, a shopping mall, bars, clubs and whatever else you wanted to do. You could stay a week in this place and be just fine doing so. We have had a pretty good budget for the trip and I definitely didn’t want to break the bank gambling. Anywhoo, besides the really amazing interior of the building, we had an exciting moment at the black jack table. I was down about 60 ... read more

The next part of our adventure takes us to the east coast, so after some time in the lower states, we decided we would take advantage of our country’s historical greatness by visiting the Colonial Triangle in Virginia. We headed up to Virginia after leaving from Charleston. This is a beautiful drive; lots of thick trees and lushness. The colonial triangle in Virginia consists of Jamestown, Yorktown and Williamsburg; three of the original colonies of the U.S. We headed to Jamestown first where we were able to catch a walking tour that a very charismatic colonial tour guide was giving. He told us all about how the people lived when they first came to our country. Jamestown was the first colony founded by the settlers. We learned that they arrived in the largest drought the area ... read more

Hey Ya’ll! We dun drove true da souf and r bout to meet up wit da yanks. This is a lot of the spoken word we have heard in the south thus far. It has been pretty hilarious. So just so you know that we are really behind on the blogging and it has been our fault partly, but also we havn’t been able to get on the internet in like 2 weeks so there is a lot to write about. So grab a drink, some cheese and crackers and enjoy the story and adventure that lies ahead. We will start with Savannah because I believe we left off at Orlando. The trip from Orlando to Savannah was a long one. It was about a 5 hour trip and we had left later in the ... read more

So a very fortunate turn of events happened on the plane rides back to Miami from Costa Rica. Matt and I were sitting on the plane trying to figure out what to do when we landed, and kept hearing a dance beat coming from this guy’s headphones behind us. A light bulb went off above Matt’s head and he realized that the Winter Music Conference was going on in Miami when we landed! This music conference is one of the world’s largest electronic/dance music events, and we had originally been getting back to the states about 3 days before the event even started. Thanks to our extended Costa Rica trip, however, we were able to be in Miami right when the conference was starting! Needless to say we were both pretty extremely happy about this, and ... read more

Well we HAD to take a little detour and go to Costa Rica, mostly because my parents MADE me spend some family time with them. GOSH. I hope you can sense the sarcasm in my writing because we were stoked to head off to Costa Rica and spend some time in ‘The Good Life.” There is just so much to talk about, especially since we ended up staying for 10 days, therefore I’m going to give you the main highlights. We left the airport from Miami around 6 a.m. and arrived in Houston for our layover. I had a message on my phone from my mom telling me that her and my Dad were having troubles with their passports and weren’t sure if they were gong to be able to make it. I guess you aren’t ... read more

Hey Ya’ll, it’s Matt. I’ll be writing about Sarasota and Miami and Kati is going to take care of Costa Rica. It has been a couple weeks since we have spoken but we have a ton to write about. So grab a drink of choice and a snack and enjoy our vacation with us! We left you at Destin, Florida. After leaving Destin, we headed down the scenic route through Florida along the coast towards Sarasota where some old friends of my Mom’s (Barb and David) were waiting to take us in for a few days. We had only planned on staying in Sarasota a day or two, but due to the amazing hospitality, the homemade food, and comfortable bed we decided we would spend 3 nights here and relax before heading to Miami and ... read more

Well I hate to do it, but I have to start out this blog with some bad news. Matt and I have gotten in a really big fight and decided that after Costa Rica we’re just going to come home. We will have plenty of time to travel, were still young. SNAP! Just joshin, we’re still having a terrific time ☺ Ok seriously I’ll start writing now… We had our trip planned all the way up to New Orleans, so we had to decide whether to stay along the gulf coast or go up into Alabama to see Birmingham. We decided on Birminham. Honestly, Alabama wasn’t the most exciting state we’ve been to yet, and there wasn’t much happening in Birmingham. After a 6 hour drive there, we decided to go to the Civil Rights Museum ... read more

(Warning: we have a lot to write about, we had that good of a time) Following the fun times we had in Baton Rouge, Kati and I were excited to head down south to see the big easy, New Orleans! The drive was short from BR, only about an hour or so. We rolled into Nawlins around 7 and went straight to the French Quarter for dinner. It was like nothing we had ever seen. The feeling and sites are hard to describe, but when you came into the area, you heard jazz bands playing down the street, the smell of beignet’s filled the air, and street performers were entertaining down every small narrow street. We were ready to dive right into the local’s favorite dishes. We sat down at a café along the street ... read more
