This blog follows my flight over the Atlantic to the US to visit friends in Florida and Denver, and the Oshkosh AirVenture, the biggest fly-in in the world.
I'm a pilot for 42 year now (I started glider flying with the age of 15), and I have been flying a lot since then in Europe, the US (where I got my pilot licence in 1977), and also a bit in Africa. But I haven't crossed the Atlantic yet with a small plane - next thing to do.
I'll fly with my Mooney, an efficient four-seater with 180 hp engine and retractable gears. The call sign of my plane is DEDDN, or short DDN. Although it was built in 1963 (47 years of age), DDN is well maintained with a rather new engine (250 hrs since rebuilt), good avionics (a nice Garmin 430 GPS is the center piece in the panel), and many modifications to keep it more up-to-date.
