Goodbye Monarch Queen So pleased to see that you've had such a wonderful time on your boat. But certainly your B&B in Budapest looks good. And Budapest looks it's a great place to explore. Enjoy!! M xx
Budapest Architecture The architecture in Budapest looks like an amazing combination of very old and ornate, as well as very modern - and very big in both cases!
Does it feel like a bustling, growing city?
No more But I'm glad the blog continues ? We're also travelling atm ... One week into a 10 day trip to Japan. Brian is blogging us on Polar Steps which is an app I think you need to download Polarsteps https://www.polarsteps.com/https://www.polarsteps.com/BrianMacgeorge
Hi Philip and Matha
Great reading about you wonderful times in Europe. I get an almost surreal sense of deja vu from your blog. Lol
We are now safe in Madrid and guess what, we are on the 4th floor and no lift. I hope your trip up to Prague is going well. Ron and Gabrielle
The Glass Museum Sorry to read that Phil decided against joining you on the walking tour and missed out on seeing all the beautiful glassware. But I'm sure he enjoyed seeing all your photos plus having a day of rest by himself. Is the boat fixed yet? Love to you both. M xx
Fixed boat The boat got fixed within a day--they actually flew in a diver from Amsterdam to check the propellers, but the problem tirned out to be an electrical fault. The difficulty was in catching up with the travel plan for ports because the boat can only go so fast and there were so many locks to wait to go through. But by Vienna we ere completely back on schedule.
Nuremberg trials and Human Rights Declaration Lucky you visiting Nuremberg so soon after we read and discussed Phillipe Sands' "East West Street". That must have added to your appreciation of the what there was to see in the town.
These lock photos make me think of moving through the stages and phases of life - you need lots of support along the way with logistics and bumpers help! Thanks for bringing us along for the ride.
Enjoying Seeing your Trip!
Looks like you guys are having lots of fun! Great photos! Glad you had a meaningful reunion with the international students you hosted! Also glad the weather seems to be cooperating for you all! XXOO
Location, location What great locations you are both enjoying. I'm looking forward to hearing all your tall tales and true at a future First Sat meeting! M xx
Strands of life Martha Melvyn and self have always said our goodbyes with these thoughts that the strands will come back together. I would like to add that additional strands enter the plait, like gossamer , uplifting and adding sparkle to the new experiences
Loving the blogs C&M
Outdoor dining When we went to Europe in 1983, as 20-something backpackers, we loved the huge outdoor cafe spaces and marvelled at their ubiquity despite such frequent heavy showers of rain! Over the last 35 years Sydney has finally caught on, but still not to that extent, hey?!
I’m really enjoying your pics ... and comments ... so who is the lady on the right in the Church of Mary? Could it be Martin Luther’s wife?? A Protestant reformer in a Catholic Church would be unusual but they have the Jewish lady on the left ...?
Kaiser Wilhelm Statue Martha Van Mollison - Doreen and I have been watching the play by play every morning and Doreen loves the dialogue and photos. A little side story here.. My great, great, great, great, great grandfather had a farm in Kaiserslautern not far from Koblenz. The Kaiser Wilhelm went from farm to farm plucking all of the male children from the farms to go fight his wars. Aparently, from what I hear, the Kaiser Wilhelm was a real bastard. My GGGGG Grandfather would not have it and so he packed the family up and walked across Germany to Amsterdam where they boarded a ship (The Lesbie) and went to America. Upon landing at Philadelphia he was immediately conscripted into the US Army to fight in the Revolutionary War here in the US. He left a German wartime situation only to end up in a war in America. Talk about a no-win situation. Enjoy your trip you two. Doreen says it is amazing that we are typing this and you are over there on the boat. We hope you are able to make a documentary of your trip Martha and Phil when you return. Doreen sends all of her love and admiration.
Champagne Did they serve you a blue champagne on the Danube, they did for us, champagne was blue but the river brown. Don’t forget coffee at Rudensheim. If you miss it will make you one when home.
