Wow Machu Picchu, you and Sara have officially seen one of the coolest things on the planet! It's at the top of my travel must see list. Have fun and be well!
Mark, I just read all of these. I had gone to your facebook to ask if you'll be in brooklyn in July, because I will be, and then remembered/was reminded that in fact you are entirely not there this month! In any event, I am so glad you're doing this! I love reading about such incredible traveling and it warms my heart and eases my spirit. Whenever they really start selling the rape-x I'll set off on the road too. Maybe shave my head while I'm at it. Keep having a beautiful time, and know that now, I'll be looking forward to your posts!
Woah that buggy looks wicked, like a beetle or something. Sandboarding sounds awesome, but I imagine there are no ski-lifts! Hard work walking back up each time, haha!
Sunsets Hi Mark, I am just catching up to this now. Your comment about watching the sunset with tourists reminded me of the time outside of Xi'an waiting for the sunrise atop that mountain. How awful that was with all the litter and radio noise, and only for a cloud-covered sun! Still, I remember our travels fondly.
Yay!! Hi Mark!! Hey Mark & Sara!!! So nice to be able to see your pics, the kids are going to be thrilled when I show it to them tomorrow. Please keep us posted of your travels, we want to see loads of pictures!!!
Love, Faye
Jim-
Its not only possible but its better for the islanders and provides for a much better experience. Staying with a host family is a great way to see a different style of living, doing it through a tour operator makes it a little more like disney land and less like real life.
Island visit Found your visit interesting. I will be visiting the area next March 2011 and your long blog report provides me much needed details on what to expect if I go without booking thru an official agency tour.
yay! OMG good update, happy to hear about it but the best part was "don't yuck my yum". how have you not told me that yet? its hilarious. there is one like that in Hebrew- roughly translates to "don't say ichs on food" sounds better in hebrew because ichs and food (ochel) both have out beloved ch sound. ANYWAY, i love the english one you just taught me and im going to use it all the time! you're a genius, as always! miss you

Sorry no book, this is just a blog I kept while traveling abroad for my friends and family to keep up with me (and of course the random internet reader!). Thanks for reading - stay tuned, I'll be in Peru in 2 weeks!

My daughter has come across this adventure and seems to think it is a book as well. Did you publish a book and if so how would I find a copy for my daughter?
zulu's attire I comment by the way zulu wear because some may be afraid to approach them thinking that is another type of animals, although its look good in some extent.
Such an eye-opener I'm a teacher and for teenage students in Thailand and we're doing a lesson on cultures. I have to admit that most kids here know very little about the world and so I gave them different countries to research on. While they came up with one or two facts related to the capital city and such other generic stuff, they didn't really talk about life as it is for people of that country. So, I decided to hand them each a sheet of information about things like daily life and social customs, work and leisure activities etc. It was while researching this that I came across your blog and I must say, I learned a whole lot myself. Thank you very much for sharing with us. It's not easy to overcome prejudices that have become a part of a person's history. I hope though that time and education will work for the betterment of the South African society in terms of both equality and understanding and accord between the many races. It's understandable for every one involved to feel so subjective about the many issues but I hope that with time they'll be able to develop some objectivity that might help them move forward.
lesotho been there done that how cool, i just got back from riding those horse at samonkong four days ago,
we stayed 2 nights at the lodge and rode horses to the falls, my son and daughter inlaw repelled down, it took my son an hour to walk up and d.i.l and her friend a doc from baylor univ 2 hours to walk up out of that canyon. my sons a bush pilot there, flying to 18 very isolated mountaneous runways
