Looks like fun! I'm glad you included pictures with Shelly's fam! I'm jealous. I really want to get down there to visit again. Are you in AZ now? I need to call soon. If you are bored and driving, please choose me to call and keep you company!
Mardi Gras They were not going too wild this year at least the first weekend of Mardi Gras. The music in New Orleans was awesome as well as the Mardi Gras stuff.
I considered it, but thought Charleston would be very similar. I was in a hurry to get to Key West for the Sailing Regatta and had to cut out a stop somewhere and that was the one I axed. The next off the grid trip might not happen for a couple years, but I would definetly like to see the city someday! In San Diego right now. A little behind on the blog. Going to the San Diego Zoo today.
I'm sorry you skipped Savannah - it's a neat river town! Rob and I were there just last year around this time. It's the first 'planned' city in the US, and many movies have been filmed there.
Keep it in mind for your next 'off the grid'.
Gumbo A crab claw, chicken wing, sausage, rice, water etc. That's all I could identify. If you put enough seasoning in anything you can make it taste good.
Thanks for the comments. I was glad you all let me help out. I had a great time. I slept great during my stay as well. Yes I do need some ear plugs for the Hostel stays. Also enjoyed learning about a mission trip. I suspect someday I will want to do that again. Take care!
I have not wrestled any gators, as I will leave that up to Joe Dirt (one of my favorite movies by the way). I decided only to pet them! Thanks for followingt the web site. It's been quite the adventure and I am only 1.5 months into it. Stay warm I hear it is cold back there! It's in the 30's in San Antonio where I am now!
Jack, Thanks for the nice words. I did have a blast. We will have to see what next year brings. I suspect I will have less vacation time next year than I do now:) It is easy to do your job when you have knowledgeable people telling you what to do. Stay warm. I am currently in San Antonio and it is in the 30's. I suspect it is a little cooler in Newport:)
foward to Brenda Dave I sent a link to Brenda she enjoyed your Blog. She also asked for your email address. I gave her the yahoo one. You know what that means. You've got to come back!!! I told her you were a quik study and the rest of the crew wants you back. It's only for a week (a great week)
Take care and keep on trucking
Jack
Dave vs. gator Don't forget to wrestle an alligator while you have the chance. A big strapping boy like you should win easily.
Saw Chris Wilson at Albers meeting last night. He's getting updates from the ladies at the office, so keep on posting.
Noisy nights Dave, you stayed with us a couple nights at BFC in Pass Christian, MS. We had a similar problem with noisy nights, given there were about 20 guys sleeping in the bunk house. Get yourself a good set of disposable ear plugs and you will be set for the trip! Looking forward to seeing your pictures and following your journey. We'll be praying for you too!
It's a pretty good site. Thanks for the interest. Plan to have my Key West entry added today. Please notify me when you go on the trip so I can check out your blog.
I looked at the site a little closer...I may have to copy when I take my BIKE adventure this summer....Now to find a laptop that will take the ride...I agree you should have used your sleeping bag in the hotel, but you didn't get wet..
Keep up the good work
Bill
We will see. I am intriguied by the anonymity. Need hints. That hotel was worse than sleeping outside because the sheets even seemed grimy. At least while sleeping outside you have a sleeping bag that is clean on the interior. I should have brought my sleeping bag inside the motel and slept in it.
Mardi Gras Jack I am in New Orlins as the locals pronounce it. Having a blast. Probably will be heading to Texas tomorrow. I hope to have an update to the blog today again. Couldn't do it recently because of web site glitches. Back on line now though. Probably will not do America's cup as I assume I would be sitting on sidelines which would not be much fun. I do not have Jim and Hal's address. Rock On! Happy Mardi Gras!
Location Where's Dave? Waiting for email answer re: Hals and Jims email addresses. Take Care. Write soon. Can't remember? Are you going to the America's Cup?
Printing Blog Don't sweat it. I sent backup CD's to you on Saturday so the photos are stored and I have emailed the text of my journal to Jay so that's backed up as well. Thanks for trying. This website occasionally has a few glitches.
A year of retirement in my 30's. Progressive thinking or insanity? Maybe a little bit of both. Either answer is fine by me.
Spending 1.5 years seeing as much of the world as possible. It has been a good ride. Feel free to come aboard!
Note: I planned to write a personal diary and then edit the diary for public viewing on this site. I soon realized during my travels that I would not have time to edit my journal writings, therefore what you see is a personal diary. The text was written on trains, boats, planes, buses, in hostels, hotels, homes, restaurants, pubs and often with very ... full info
