Annapurna Great ! Great blog !! ... Pity I didnt see this before I left. Actually just got back from Annapurna Circuit and was truly magnificent. And because its was off peak there were hardly any other trekkers which was brilliant. I know what you saying about the road, because we actually had to walk on it for the first few days. It was great when it stopped and then we actually onto trails. We actually joked along the way that oneday the road will go right around and there'll be a chairlift going over the pass !!... I think they said the road would be at Menang in 20 years ... Anyway, great blog...!!
Simply splendid stuff.... Well done on narrating this great walk so clearly and with such detail. You have shared so much, thank you.
Your comments about the Dhaulagiri visit are spot on. Perhaps your next trip will be the Dhaulagiri circuit including Hidden Valley. However, it is a camping trip and takes in some dangerous and exposed places at high altitudes. Your story of Claire's misfortune is indicative of the seriousness that journeys like this can present. That said, the Dhaulagiri circuit is both a great adventure and has equally stunning mountain scenery.
I am off to do the AC next week; having joined it at Marpha from the Hidden Valley route last time. Your blog is really exciting to read and confirms my decision to re-visit the area and complete the whole circuit. I am selfishly concerned about the road building and the changes that I will see in the Marpha/Tatapani area, but must acknowledge the benefits to the local population.
Great stuff, accurate and with good detail on times and places.
Best wishes for your future next journeys.

international trekking companies Lucas, not all overseas trekking companies use local "service providers" we have our own Nepal (Pvt Ltd/TAAN registered company) created out of 15 years of trekking in Nepal our focus is career employment for our guides / porters (paid salary all year) training program especially for young women - creates a different care with the tour leaders, extra comfort - researched teahouses with specific rooms renovated and reserved- stored mattress's, quilts - cotton sheets - own pillows (all new) (sleeping backs also - new), food stores @ major teahouses for a variety above teahouse dal bhat - plus we give back via charity programs and committ to carry out our rubbish (team get bonus based on this + happy custommers) / to often little is paid and the local trekking company provides limited budget to the guide whom is forced to save a few dollars a day and chase for the tip (which we also dont allow)
wont give the site but there are some of us building tourism in Nepal for more than back Pack holidays with value and care for the rebuilding of the country

Hello Jacque & Lucas We all love the photos that you have sent us. Halong Bay is incredible and my family will be there this summer time (06/24 - 06/29/07) for the first time. Our relatives in Hanoi already booked the hotels for us in Hanoi and Halong. Your photos taken in North Vietnam just irritates me since I have to wait until June 07 to have the photos like yours. You are lucky to see Hoi An. Do you have any plan to visit Mui Ne and the Tran's resort ??? Enjoy the Interpid Honeymoon (**Note: Intrepid is the name of a Balloon Catheter that once upon a time I was the project leader at Baxter).
Hello Happy Honey Mooners!! Hello Jacqui and Lucas!! Loving reading about your adventures...esp when they pop up when I am at work - a great break! So glad you are having such an amazing time...it really is a once in a lifetime trip hey?! Mum and Dad are here in Tokyo at the moment and Nic left on Sunday after being here for a week. It is sooo good to have them and share new experiences with them! Must be the same for you and Lucas' parents!! All my love to you! I'll write more soon!! Love Haylesxxoxx

to Val Val - the stories from the killing fields are endless. they are still many kids of that generation, now in their 20's, who don't believe this massacre even happened because the families are too scared to talk about it and it is too horrible to even think about it. Some are even worried that they'll get in trouble with the Khmer Rouge leftovers if they say anything. It is so horribly moving to be there you can't even imagine...
Lucas (US of A) & Jacqui (Aussie) Buchanan - married September 9th, 2006 in Sonoma County. 2 bags, no jobs, dwindling cash flow, and a passion for travel. This is our 9-month honeymoon. Life is good!
