'I found Rome a city of bricks and left it a city of marble.' Augustus One of the many facts we witnessed in Rome. Rome is truly the eternal city. We all walked away with a greater appreciation of the Roman history and culture. Our first tour was Ancient Rome with a wonderful tour guide named Kiron. She is very knowledgeable about many aspects of Rome. Kiron also gave us a tour of the Vatican museum and St. Peter's. The city is very manageable and the people are wonderfully warm and funny. ... read more

Europe » Italy » Liguria » Monterosso al Mare July 10th 2011

Cinque Terre is a magical place. The region is made up small villages wedged between steep cliffs and the ocean. Only one of the towns (Monterosso del Mare) has enough space for a thin strip of beach. Most of the villages are very traditional in architecture and life style. The region was isolated from the general public due to the lack of public transportation until the 1930's. Only one of the villages, Mnarola, is inhabited year round. The rest of the towns are seasonal, April - November. The cuisine in CT is different from the rest of Tuscany. There is a strong emphasis on fish, pesto and the best focaccia you will ever eat! Swimming in the clear sea and hiking the stunning hillside trails is the source of entertainment. The water is so clean and ... read more

Buon giorno - Hope this finds you well. Today we took a tour of the countryside of Tuscany. We toured mostly medieval towns: Siena, San Gimignano, Barberino de Else and Monteriggioni. All of the towns were walled and most on top of hills. The history is incredible. The town of Monteriggioni was preparing for a medieval festival and had many artisans setting up their tents and crafts. Many of the smaller towns have medieval fairs every weekend in July. People come dressed in costumes and even exchange euros for medieval "money" in order to buy food and crafts. We attached a few of the hundreds of pictures taken today - Ciao! ... read more
