Today for class we went to the colon theater. i hopped on the good old 29 and rode it to centro after dropping off my laundry on the way. i thought that i had enough time but i got there late because there was a lot of traffic. not to mention there was a guy that looked like he was having a seizure on the bus. he was shaking uncontrollably and kept saying that he needed to get to this hospital. our bus driver finally pulled over and, with the help of a few other passengers, helped the man get to the clinic. even though it made me late for my field trip, it was really cool to see everyone on the bus come together to help a complete stranger. the entire way people kept telling ... read more

La Bomba Del Tiempo- Last Monday I went to La Bomba Del Tiempo and it was awesome. Every monday people come to watch a drum circle with different guest performers. There were a ton of different kinds of people and some really crazy hippies. I really liked it and we decided to head to a bar afterwards. not too bad for a monday night. La Milonga- For my culture and civilization class I was happy to have the day off from class for a field trip and a tango club. my roommate came with me and we decided to skip the dance class beforehand so we could eat dinner at home. I thought it would just be watching people dance like the last milonga i went to but it was really cool. There was an orchestra ... read more

Today I decided to get out of the house and check some more things off my list of things to do in Buenos Aires. I was going to go by myself, but happy that my roommates decided to join me. We took the bus to the Japanese garden first. It was really beautiful. We bought some food to feed the coy fish (which were really fat) and walked around enjoying the gardens. There were a few cats walking around the garden and it was really nice to have pets around. Before leaving the garden we all decided to buy our host mom a little bonsai tree for dia de la madre (mothers day). Afterwards we decided to head to the botanical gardens and get food along the way. I loved walking through Palermo. It's a really ... read more

On friday I spent the day in Colonia, Uruguay to renew my visa. I came into Argentina on a tourist visa which lasts 90 days. However, your tourist visa resets if you travel to another country. I've only been here for 6 weeks but will be here for over 100 so I needed to reset my visa sometime during my stay. My program took us to Colonia for the day, but I really wish i could have stayed for the night because I had to take a 3 hour ferry ride to get there and a 3 hour ferry ride back. I think I'm going to return to Uruguay with some friends at the end of the month to hang out and rent a beach house. Even so, how many people can say they went to ... read more

Last night i decided to go to a bar in Palermo to practice my spanish. There's a program in the city called Spanglish where Argentines and foreigners can come together to practice both spanish and English. Everyone has 4 different partners and talks for 5-10 minutes in English and then switches to Spanish. I really enjoyed it and think I'll go again on Tuesday. I was really proud of myself for going though because I went by myself. I know it doesn't sound like that big of a deal but I don't do very many things by myself except go to school. But I looked up the address, found the bus, got off on the right stop and after wandering around a bit found the place. It was really neat to be able to talk to ... read more

so i decided to take a last minute trip to rosario for the weekend with 2 friends because i wanted to go somewhere close and cheap and we had monday off from school (although i was pretty disappointed that i didn't get my act together sooner and plan a trip to somewhere far away). all of the hostels were booked for the weekend but somehow we were lucky enough to find one (but for 150 pesos for 2 nights, which is more than we normally pay but still only 36$). we got to the bus station and 830 and got on one of the last morning buses left. the bus was supposed to take 4 hours but took around 6 (we stopped a bunch of places and had to all get out of the bus). we ... read more

I spent the last 5 days in Salta and just got back at 8am this morning with class at 1030. the trip though was awesome! Tuesday: 20 hour bus ride from BA to salta. It was actually a lot more bearable than i thought. buses in argentina are expensive but super nice. they bring you wine and food and the chairs recline with blankets and pillows. i watched a movie, ate and passed out until the next morning. wednesday. we got in around 330pm and found a guy who was supposed to take us to our hostel. i expected there to be a bus or van of some sort but he just put us in a taxi and told the driver the address. we went to Backpacker´s hostal salta...but we couldn´t stay there. The tuesday that i left for Salta i had quite the unpleasant experience on the bus. it was my first time ever taking the bus by myself. i´d walked home by myself before but pretty much do everything with susana. she doesn´t have class on tuesday so she decided to meet me at campus later that day so we could leave to go to the bus station. on the bus i had my giant backpacking bag and purse with me because i was going to leave to go the bus station straight from school. it was midday so i got a seat which was awesome. a few stops into the ride this woman got on. she kept looking at me and muttering something but i coudn´t tell if she was talking to me because i couldn´t ... read more

Friday after the boliche, i met some girls in Palermo to get some food and go to the Japanese Gardens. The weather was kind of crappy so we scrapped the Gardens and went to el museo Evita, which was pretty cool. Argentina is fascinated by Eva Peron, Argentinas first lady from the 50s. i liked going through the museum and learning about her life. i also got to explore palermo a bit which is a beautiful neighborhood. then we went to starbucks ( i know, not very cultural, but the coffee here seriously comes in cups made for dolls and i wanted a real cups of coffee i could sip on). we sat in starbucks playing monopoloy deal and enjoying a break from the business of the city. after starbucks, i looked up on a map ... read more
