Beautiful Thailand No wonder you like Thailand so well! The elephant looks like he likes you and is 'gentle'. Guess looks are deceiving. You are both braver or nuttier than I, no bugs and birds for me! Have a wonderful, memorable New Year's Eve in Saigon.
Love, Mom
Buddha image I have heard that there were no images of the Buddha until Alexander the Great came through that area. The Greeks were big on stone carving and they started the carving of Buddha images. I saw some 100 BC Buddha sculptures in a museum once and they look like an Indian man with a mustache dressed in a robe. As if it were a mixture of Greek and Indian styles. But no long ears or top knot hair or any of those icons we see now.
crazy people Okay guys, you are crazy people! Foreign dentists, buses, tigers!!!! Oh My!
Lisa, I'm glad you're okay. Toby, don't let her out of your sight again! (the tigers are cute yet scary)
The falls are some of the prettiest I've ever seen, I'll take a print of #4!
Enjoy your weather, we've got one of the most violent rain storms I've ever seen right now! (Some of these squirrels are pretty scary too!)
Paul
Wow! So much excitement! Sounds like you had a lot more excitement than you expected. I'm glad you are okay and keeping a "it doesn't matter" tude.
-Eric
Mai pen rai "Mai pen rai" - very Buddhist, very present moment. If only we could remain in each present moment! :-)
Thanks for the vicarious travel experience. - Kris
Mai pen rai! I'm so glad you're ok! I've heard buses usually win...I'm glad you gave it a run for its money. Mai pen rai indeed! I am a stress monkey myself and will definitely need you to teach me the ways of this mysterious "fuggedaboutit" from the far East. :)
Translation of Thai sign The sign in Thai script means "land of demons." More specifically, "a class of demons from hell, taller than a building, sometimes appearing at night and crying at the top of their voices," according to my So Sethaputra dictionary.
Hey Guys!! Hey Lisa and Toby!! It's amazing you can do all these blogs while traveling! Brendt and I will write soon when we are out of Thailand. We are back in Phuket as our flight from Bangkok was suspended last week. Have a blast!!!!
Boys will be boys? I was going to say "boys will be boys" but......always wondered what the true level of surprise is if one doesn't know, but never wanted to know badly enough to find out. Girls should n ot have winkies. That is my final position on the matter.
Guest house The architecture of that house must be somewhat ubiquitous to southeast Asia. We saw a lot of the same architecture in Vietnam. Narrow, like a shoebox, but tall. One of our guides said that the tall buildings with small footprints are due to the high cost of property.
We love reading your entries and looking at your pics. Keep 'em comin'!
Old buildings in other people's pictures You wrote: "Yeppers, it looks pretty old. Will spare you more of the same as it's dull as a bowling ball to see other people's pics of old buildings."
au contraire...I'm a real geek for old colonial architecture. I love to hear the history of these buildings in aching detail. But I do realize that I'm the geek here and won't ask you to inflict stories as dull as bowling balls on your general audience. Suffice it to say, the Penang City Hall is a beauty of a building. When you get there, be sure to check out the Hanoi Opera House. If you share my love of these old buildings at all, you'll love that one.
Happy Trails, y'all.
Hi guys Just wanted to say hi... Kristin and I read all your posts... it's just SOME OF US have to work and don't have a lot of time to reply ;-) Keep posting, have fun, and be safe.
Happy thanksgiving Hey guys! We missed you tonight. Hope you are having a good time. Toby your mom is sitting next to me right now. We were wondering what you ate for thanksgiving. Hopefully it wasn't one of those critters pictured on your blog. (ha,ha) Well, your mom, Bruce, His girls, Kermit and Our kids all want you to know we are looking forward to have you back in CA. Love,
From all of the California Wullschlegers :)
Bunaken pictures OMG, I wouldn't be able to get out of the water. What awesome pictures! And the commentary is hilarious, you must have gotten hungry. Keep up the fun and photos, I enjoy each and every one. Stay safe! Cathy
Amazing! You never cease to amaze! Very cool! Remeber, what the Sharks in "Finding Nemo" said, "fish are friends, not food" Strwaberries dipped in chocolate, yum! Kristen would love them.
In steamy Singapore at the moment. Unyielding humidity. Are you guys used to it yet?
Spectacular! What great pictures you're taking! I had no idea sea slugs came in so many colors and varieties. And, your new camera is worth the money!
John
Magic Mushrooms? Man, I look at those pictures and then those captions describing the flavors of the nudies, and then I wonder... hey, are they sampling those magic mushrooms over there? Or maybe that centipede has some kind of psychoactive synergistic effect with the moonshine. :-)
Kris
Tooth feature So, can you squirt water through the new tooth feature. That would have some entertainment value.
Hmmm, I wonder if Toby was laughing as hard as you were around the Transvestite smooch. :-)
Glad you are having such a great time. We enjoy reading and viewing it all.
Kris
Stories from Bali Wow! It sounds like you guys are having an AMAZING time! So many stories...they're just awesome! I am so glad you have gotten to experience the wonderful world of gay clubs...so much better than their straight counterparts. And I can't believe about your tooth! You'll have to share what the dentist experience is like in Bangkok. LOL! Thanks again for sharing! Keep 'em coming!
What a way to go I think I want a public cremation like that. I heard some where that some peoples in that area think that the soul is a bird and when the cremation platform collapses, it jars the bird loose to fly to heaven. I think you two have been to more gay bars than I have! Glad you're having fun. Paul
Exciting Adventures in Komodo & Asia Hi Lisa and Toby, I've been sharing your adventures with my hubby, Greg and my parents (Tom and Sue Rinde) who now reside in the Bay Area near us. Your commentary is better than the Discovery/Travel channels!!!! Safe travels and looking forward to more adventures to come! Dawn and Greg Benson

Hi Lisa and Toby, Thank you for sharing your wonderful trip. I think I too would pass on the insects...
