Wow Linds, what a great entry!! I am so envious of your amazing experience, and pictures! Matt and I had a good laugh picturing you sliding down the railings of the Great Wall! I am in the midst of a crazy busy week here, but the end is in sight!
Good luck on your presentation, you will wow everyone as always!
This is all so amazing Linds! I'm so glad you are enjoying your time there :) We do look forward to having you back around the lab, though! Good luck giving your talk!
Amazing!
Hi Lindsey--
I am just amazed when I read your travel blogs. I can't stop reading and looking at your very beautiful pictures. Thank you so-o-o much! I appreciate the sharing of your fantastic experiences. It has been very gray and rainy here. The flowers and the peacock brightened my office and my spirits.
We are planning for Easter Breakfast and-- guess what--Vacation Bible School.
Blessings, Marilyn
"Can you find me in this photo?"
LOL...was that supposed to be some kind of joke? How could I NOT know your giant hair after all of these years? :)
I'll email you today or tomorrow!!

Hi my dear! Dear Lindsey,
Sounds like you are having an AWESOME time in China! I'm so jealous and wish I could be there to experience it with you! I can't wait to hear more about it and see more pictures next time we're together.
Hugs from chilly Wisconsin,
Emily
Linds - looks like a wicked good time. The caves look awesome - though I don't think I'd ever get myself into that bloody boat! I also dig the pics of the orchard and purple blossoms. Very pretty! Glad to hear you're still having a great time, and finding ways to balance experimenting with wild adventuring. Keep the good times rolling!!
Hey Linds! Awesome blog entry, such amazing pictures. I think its really awesome how up for anything you are. I know the bats and boat through a tight place would have made me a little leery! And clearly you are giving it all 100%, as evident from the frisbee incident! And woo you have survived a month and aren't going too crazy?!

One would think I can speak Chinese! (I am very skilled at the "cut and paste" technique)
Lindsey, it is always a joy hearing from you and learning about your experiences so far from home. One thing is certain: I will always get a good laugh-out-loud! I read parts of your blog out loud to Gabe and Luke and it was quite fun. They loved the part about the "super power" mountain climber (previous blog). Reading about your being stuck on a bus for an entire evening and sitting there even while the driver cleaned the bus gave us all a renewed respect for you! (yes, we laughed...a little....only because, again, this is SO our Lindsey who we love.) Imagine: You would not have these experiences if you sat and watched tv all day! I love your stories.
All is very well here. Busy, but in a very good way. Luke is part of the soccer and track teams while Gabe is trying tennis this year. Along with Boy Scouts, church, and schoolwork, they are very busy. We've been busy with some fundraising for Gabe's trip to Germany. He is so excited about his trip! He still wants to go to Scout camp which means he'll only be home for 2 nights from Germany before he leaves again. This is my kid who ran after the minivan, sobbing, the first time I dropped him off at church camp! (I stopped the van, and explained how this three-night camp was going to prepare him to someday leave home for college! He was only 7. He honestly didn't care about college at that time!) But here he is going off to Europe for 3 weeks. Luke is hoping to go next year.
I start the occupational therapy program this fall so this is my last year working for the school. I'm not sure if I had told you that. It's an exciting time for me. My favorite mantra has become "It'll work out somehow." I just realized the other day that I say this several times a day. Faith. If I had waited to begin when all the pieces were put in place, I would never have begun my classes at all. One step at a time. So far, all the pieces are fitting. I know God has His hand in putting this puzzle together. There is just NO other way!
Time to get ready for work. The sun has been shining lately and spring has sprung! It's been beautiful. Keep the blogs coming, Lindsey! We so enjoy hearing from you. (and I'm so very glad you got some fettucini!)
Love you, as always,
Wendy
out and about Hi Lindsey,
That bus adventure sounds kind of fun if you knew you would get back to the university eventually. But are there parts of town the bus goes through that you would really not want to get out and explore?
How are people and crowds when you're out and about? Does it feel much different from Canada/USA? Do locals do a double take at the sight of the tall blonde women?; Sounds like there are quite a few internationals in your area, so maybe not?
Take care.

Sadly, it was just a lame gazebo. However, even if it were a carousel, you know I get sick whenever I ride those, lol! (like you and the tea cups!) ;)
-Lindsey
I also laughed out loud thinking of you knocking over the bikes! SO funny. Not going to lie, I probably would just sneak away and hope no one saw! Your 'home away from home' looks lovely!
HEY hey linds!
Loved reading your update! I am actually testing right now...well i'm sitting in the room as matt tests a 6 year old. We are at St.Charles today. I am glad to hear that you are safe from the tsunami! Matt has booked the house for VSS and flights are in the process of being booked as well. Sounds like you are super busy! Where do you get your participants from? Do they have a database like we do? I'm soooo jealous of the shopping you will be doing! And everything is so cheap! Make sure you bargain them down! I remember when I was in China, we would have calculator wars with the sales people because of the language barrier. They would type a price on their calculator, then we would type a lower price. It was actually really fun :) But its almost my turn to test so I should get ready! Talk to you soon!
Lindsey,
How wonderful it is to read about your adventures! I am so proud of all that you have accomplished and all that is to come. I got a bit queasy thinking about all that camera equipment you were lugging. Odd though, it wasn't the lugging that made me uneasy---even the fact you had to rest so many times just getting through the parking garage--- it was the thought of actually doing something with all that equipment once you got it there! I can handle the physical agony. The technical part scares the crap out of me! Yet, you conquered....as you have done each step along the way, big and small.
I love the idea of you being part of a bible study. When I read this, I instantly remembered you, blond and fair-skinned, reserved and curious, sitting as a first-grader in our very American Sunday school class soaking in every little detail of the day's lesson. I saw these two photos in my mind as Lindsey's faith journey: THEN and NOW. I'm not at all surprised your faith is still a priority to you, as it should be, and this makes me so proud of you who are!
Reading your blog was the best way I could have started my day today. Reading about you eating chicken bones made me laugh, as did the comment about you feeling exotic! Not sure how close the definition of exotic is to the definition of "One of a Kind", but you got it girl, either way!!
Much love and blessings are sent to you, Lindsey!
Wendy
greetings from Columbus hi Lindsey!
I so much enjoyed your narrative and the photos. Keep up all the good work (and do watch the chicken bones!).
Best,
Rochelle
Greetings! Hey lindsey!
I have been meaning to write but things have been so busy. I miss you so much. I have taken it upon myself to distract matt in your honour. I have started doing my homework at your desk when there isn't space in the R.A office. I don't know how you ever get any work done in here! hahaha I realized how much I missed you when I caught myself having imaginary conversations with you. Like the other day, I was sitting here thinking about how I eat too many candies. And in my head, I was like "I wonder if lindsey has any vices" and then imaginary you said "yes, jasmine, sometimes I read too many civil war articles"....and then i laughed out loud! and matt said "what?"...and I said "nothing" because it would be weird to let him in on an imaginary conversation. hahaha
Joe barnes is still up to his ridiculous antics. Our internet was really slow, so he has purchased his own wireless internet strictly for gaming. I was wondering how on earth he could possibly afford his own internet package! Apparently the government pays for his cell phone, so he has bundled the cell phone and internet together....our tax dollars well spent!!! gah! dkfjsdkf! <--my frustration
I hope things warm up over there! I can imagine you all bundled up. AND JOB WELL DONE on setting up that beast of a 3D camera! I am honestly so proud that you managed to get that thing there and set it up! It tried to give you problems, but you showed it whose boss!
CUPE seems set to strike next week if mediations do not go well this week. They rejected binding arbitration...I really hope they don't strike. I told matt that I will throw eggs at him while he pickets..hehehehehe, but I wouldn't really.
MISSSSSSSS YOU! I will write again soon :)
Great first post! Ni hao, Lindsey!
I'm so glad to hear you're doing well (and that you got those silly cameras set-up!).
It sounds like you're making the most of your time and meeting some nice people. I'm very happy for you and a little jealous :-)
I defended my thesis last week, so you can call me "Dr Bill" when you get back. I feel very educated. Now all I have to do is write and publish a bunch of papers, rewrite papers under review, apply for grants and post-docs, start up whole a new line of research, work two part-time academic jobs, and finish all the revision to my thesis in the next 10 days; life is so much easier now ;-)
I'll look forward to your next post and image that I'm spending a little of my time exploring a different part of the world.
Màn zǒu (It literaly means 'walk slowly' but I think it's a mandarin expression for 'take care'; especially if you end up hiking in the mountains!).
