What a fun trip I did one between Silverton and Durango Colorado. Not as many tunnels and no monkeys. So glad you are able to have this time with your
son. what great memories. Inez & Herb
toy train Hi K,
It is a tourist thing now. It is a very impractical mode of transportation, it takes 5 hrs to go 47 km, and stops at every little hamlet along the way. But a lot of India people come from other states to ride it, so it is not only for European tourists, in fact it was mostly Indians riding when we went. It's nice that this little bit of history has been preserved.
Toy Train excursion... Hi Iris ....So nice to travel with you. Found the history of the Toy Train, plus the pictures very interesting. Train is so colorful! And the scenery so striking! Reminds us of the narrow gauge White Pass Railway, built for the gold rushers, from Skagway, Alaska, into Whitehorse, Yukon. We've taken it part way, thru tunnels and up a high elevation too .... looking way back on the Tiny looking Huge Cruise ship we had just left from. Similar feel .... yet a lot shorter, and no monkeys :) How cute they are. You sure are having a trip of a lifetime! Am sure you cherish it, esp with your son. Enjoy!
HI from VIRCS Hi Iris, It's Jennifer from VIRCS. We miss you so much. We are looking forward to your return. Your blogs are wonderful to read, sorry i haven't commented before, just been super busy with work and kids. I am excited to hear that your trip has been everything you dreamed of. I hope you are enjoying this special time with your son. Wishing you health and happiness for the rest of your trip. See you soon. Jennifer
WoW! What an amazing adventure!! Hi Iris ..... we have been 3 weeks in Palm Springs area with poor wifi in the 2 RV Parks. So today I managed to get thru all your blog. What a fabulous journey you are on! From parades & animals to fantastic beach & mtn views. Meeting the super people of India, and eating their yummy food delights (brave soul). The elephant decor was so interesting. We recently saw some elephants in a Zoo near hear, with rides as well, but not for us. You we fortunate to see them in their own culture.
We will be back in mid May .... thru AZ, NM, Colorado, etc. Will enjoy a summer visit together. Thanks for all the great pictures. Safe travels ..... Kathy
What an experience sorry we haven't commented for a while. WE had trouble getting our supplier to not shut us down. Don't know why it was happening.
So glad to be able to catch up on where you are. Sounds like you are really enjoying you venture and continuing to stay healthy. Herb & Inez
Fantastic Terry and I have definitely been enjoying your blog and the photos you send. We really look forward to hearing about your trip but can hardly wait to hear all about it when you get home.
WOW what an experience!!! WE are enjoying the chance we have to travel with you on this sojourn. What a story
you are going to have to tell when you get home. God Bless
Thinking of you Hi Iris!
I have enjoyed reading your blog and hearing about your adventures. It is intriguing to be viewed as a tourist wherever you go which would make me feel I was missing being part of something more authentic. Still, to see, hear, taste and smell new things can add a nice dichotomy to the scene. Thinking about you! Take care until we see your words again.
Pam
Hi Pam,
Nice to have feed back on the blog. Yes, we really stand out as tourists here, but that being said, my son has been mistaken for Tamil several times. It was really nice to be invited to the 'real' Kathakali, not something dumbed down for tourists. We were made to feel welcome and people were pleased that we were interested in the culture. We will attend another ceremony this evening at the same temple where they will have a parade of elephants. Will post more pictures on the blog.Having a great time, my son is a very knowledgable tour guide, I am very fortunate to be travelling with him. Looking forward to sharing my adventures with VIRCS(but not too soon, not ready for it to end yet) Say hello to everyone for me. Iris
Looks like the adventure is off to a great start! So nice to see pictures. I know it might not be you and Andrew's usual style, but try and take a few with you guys in them ;)
Happy Landing !! So glad you made it safely and are finding your senses awakened to new sights, smells and tastes. Can't wait to see some of your photos. Stay safe as you explore and encourage others and have fun with your son!!
Life has handed me many adventures but none quite as fulfilling as the one I am about to embark on.I have found my niche and am going back for the third time to volunteer at ABC's and Rice in Siem Reap Cambodia.
ABC's and Rice is an NGO school that provides education in both English and Khmer to the poorest of the poor from the villages on the outskirts of Siem Reap. In Cambodia, children often have to go out to work or to beg in order to help support the family, so ABC's provides a kind of reverse tuition of 2 meals a day at the school and rice to take home every month so these kids can g... full info

Amazing pictures! It must have been so nice for you to see your elephants out in the wild, wandering free!
