I'm a new traveller but want to see so much of the world. I have been to Cyprus twice, Paphos and Kilmaris. Lloret De Mar, Barcelona, Tenerife (Playa De Las Americas), Malta and Tunisia (Hammamet) These have been sun holidays and not the sort of holidays that I'm really interested in which is trekking and getting to know local traditions and cultures.

First Stop Nepal and Everest Base Camp............

So we're now officially at a ridiculous height at 4410m!!!! I have a slight headache but Tashi has a roll on thing to help with that and drinking plenty of water. A few people are sick. Diamox rocks! Lol This morning we went TO the monastery I found it a humbling experience. Was good to see them sitting there and chanting their prayers though! We then headed out and had a really long walk not huge inclines but long windy stretches. It has been misty all day but dry. No sunrise this morning :( We've just arrived at our digs for tonight and I only have wifi for one hour so updating while I can. Found out I have a beautiful new niece weighing in at 7lb 9ozs born on 22/9. She looks beautiful. Managed to ... read more

So we made it to Tengboche we're at approx 3870m now! The weather was beautiful this morning. I woke at 5:30am and saw the sunrise on Kwangde with Michael. The view was superb what a way to wake up. Each day is getting more breathtaking (literally :) ) We had breakfast at 7:30 and then started walking. It was hard today it was about 30 degrees. After about 20 mins we got to see Everest!!! Lhotse and the mothers necklace, amabalam. They were all spectacular! We had good weather until about 2:45 the the clouds came in. It was dry though. Tashi set the pace for us on the 600m incline section at the end. Jess had a bee on her arm during the walk and she screamed like a girl! It was hilarious! It was ... read more

So today I woke at 4am and couldn't go back I had a strange dream about dad. He was on the walk with us but he want himself. I woke up upset and then started panicking as I was worried I'd dehydrate. I'm ok though as it's normal to have strange dreams at altitude. We had breakfast (I'm having porridge). While I'm on good I've tried momo's which are lush, and Dahl bhat which is hot!!!! I'm eating a lot of rice. Mainly and at Namche they do amazing chips which are not greasy. Good lunchtime snack! So we had breakfast at 7:30 but first Michael (Aus) and j had a good chat as we were the only ones awake, swapping life stories. It's amazing hearing. What has got everyone here. Everyone is not single but ... read more

Phakding 20/9 We awoke at 4:30 to leave for 5:30. We went to this mad little airport dribhuvan, that was under construction. Our bags got checked twice, and we got body checked. Ladies had to go through separate ways to the men, this was odd. Our plane to Lukla was tiny and somehow I ended up in the middle front seat behind the pilots, overlooking the control instruments. Eeek doesn't even come close! The plane was so small I was scared but the flight was fine. I was in between Karen and Mike, coincidence......? I've seen Mt Everest for the first time today thanks to my seat position. It's beautiful. The landing was perfect but I was literally looking straight at it and from up high it looks about 10m long so was pretty scary! Through ... read more

Today we had a day in Kathmandu shopping and visiting the temples. The roads were crazy and you had to run between the traffic!!! We got our cash (as it's closed currency here). £10 is equivalent to 15.500 Nepalese Rupees. Everything is soooo cheap , a T-shirt will cost you £2. We met one if our tour group, Jess, at the hotel at about 11:30 and she tagged along with us. She's from Toronto. We showed her how to get money and where to hire a sleeping bag. We then all went to visit the Monkey Temple. We took a taxi which was very cheap at 350 NPR. A half hour drive at £2!!! It had no seatbelts so that was interesting especially with their traffic. The temple was mad there were monkeys everywhere and they ... read more

We have arrived safe and sound! Kathmandu is crazy crazy! Never seen anything like it on the road, mopeds I have seen cutting up but there's people just walking in front of cars and then randomly in the middle of the crazy moving traffic there's a traffic warden directing traffic!! Fuji hotel is lovely it's so close here though about 26 degrees and no air!!! Lightning storm at the moment which is cool as we're on the 6th floor. I've learnt three Nepali phrases namaste is hello, ha-Zur is yes and Dhan-ya-bahd is thank you. On the flight from Oman to Nepal there were only four westerners on the plane the rest were Nepalese. Lovely people met a great guy called Ne-ma who we were chatting to in the airport and he was sat by us ... read more

Currently in transit waiting for our connecting flight to Kathmandu. Oman airline is the best airline I have ever flown with. Staff are so friendly plane was comfy (helped it was empty) loads of freebies and the food was good too. Currently in the Plaza lounge at Muscat airport it's 10am here (7am back home) we've had a nice hot shower have a free buffet and as many drinks as we like. Was able to have a 3 hour sleep on plane and an hour snooze here in the lounge. I'm managed to get a towel as I forgot to pack one! Drip! Flight for Kathmandu leaves at 12:35. Xxxx... read more
