I spent another day in Kununurra relaxing in the sunshine before hopping on a bus in the morning to Katherine. I got to Katherine in the early evening. I lugged all my stuff to my hostel. There are a lot more aboriginals up in this area. They hang around in groups all over the town. Katherine is an interesting town. It's not very big and there isn't much to do besides go to the gorge out of town. I was up early the next morning and on a bus out to Katherine gorge which they call nitmiluk in aboriginal. I walked around the information center before making my way down to the boat launch. I decided to do a 3 gorge tour. There isn't much walking involved except 400m between the gorges. We all piled onto ... read more

I was up early and had breakfast before I was picked up at 8:30am for my day tour. Picked up a few more people and then we headed to the small airport. I would be flying with Alligator airways. We were all given a brief talk about where our tours would be flying over. We were then split up into small groups. My pilot only looked like he was about 15.....yikes! We were taken over to our plane and then given a safety talk. The plan only seats about 7 people, 8 including the pilot. I was seated directly behind the pilot. I wasn’t really nervous at all until we got into the air. It was quite a windy day and being that the plane is so small I could feel all the little bumps and ... read more

I spent my last day in Broome having a bit of a wander and then just relaxed at the hostel. My greyhound bus to Kununurra is an evening bus. Ulli helped me with my bags and we headed over to the visitor center where the HUGE bus would pick me up. My bags were loaded onto the bus and I was given my seat. This time saying goodbye to Ulli meant really saying goodbye as we are now headed in different directions. She is on her way to Cairns. I hopped on the bus and got myself comfortable. I had a seat to myself which was nice. The bus left Broome at 6:15pm and we headed down the highway in the darkness. A movie was put on to pass a bit of the time, Pretty Woman. ... read more

Broome is a really nice town. I was expecting it to be bigger. What makes Broome unique is the main part of town is in one part and quite a distance away is the cable beach resort area. There is a bus that goes between the two parts but costs $3.50 each way! Australia is so expensive! I spent my first couple of days staying out in Cable beach. But I ended up moving to a place closer to town so it was easier for me to get around. I wasn't interested in sitting on the beach with these broken ribs. I met back up with Ulli and we went to check out the staircase to the moon on my second night there. If you've never heard of it google it! It's a pretty cool sight. ... read more

After breakfast we all packed up and hopped in the truck. It would be a long drive with not much to see to get to Broome. Our first stop was 80 mile beach. It is actually true to it's name and is in fact 80 miles long. Heaps of 4x4's drive out onto the beach which is PACKED with fishermen. It's not a good swimming beach because of sharks in the area. It's a stunning beach and we had a perfect day to spend some time there. There are heaps of really cool shells all along the beach and sand dollars. From 80 mile beach to the crocodile wildlife park just outside of Broome there was literally nothing to look at. It was a long drive! We arrived at the crocodile park just in time for ... read more

After leaving Karijini we were on the long road again. Not much to see on this highway and not many towns to stop at. We did however get an amazing sunset so we stopped for pictures and at the same time as the sunset the moon was rising. Pretty cool. We made it to Pardoo Roadhouse at 7pm in the dark. There is nothing here but a roadhouse, a campground and a few motel rooms. Everyone would be sleeping in swags on the grass but because of my stupid broken ribs and my inability to get down on the ground I had to stay in one of the motel rooms. The tour company did pay for half of the room but even then it still cost me $50!!!!! YIKES. Guess they can charge whatever they want ... read more

Well my time is up in the hospital. I'm feeling much better and well rested. The painkillers have been working and letting me get some sleep. I can't carry my big backpack but i'm hoping people on the tour will help me. I can carry all my other stuff. I will try to get wheels for it in Broome. Rhett, my new tour guide came and picked me up just after lunch. Everyone on the tour was warned about what happened to me and they were all really nice. Everyone wanted to know the whole story so I shared it with them. Everyone was so helpful with me wanting to carry everything for me. We stopped at the same place for lunch and I walked over to the grocery store and grabbed some more painkillers. Then ... read more

We were up really early again to get on the road. We had a long drive ahead of us. We left Exmouth at 6:30am and we arrived in the mining town of Tom Price just after lunch time. We ate our lunch in the park and then stocked up on any supplies we needed. In the afternoon we drove the one and a half hours into Karijini National Park. We were staying at the eco retreat out there which has all solar powered heating for the showers and eco tents with bunk beds in them. Is a really cool place to stay in the middle of no where haha. We all got changed and headed down to Joffre gorge which was right behind the tents we were staying at. Took us only a few minutes to ... read more

We were up early and made our way to the hostel entrance where the bus from our boat came to pick us up. After picking everyone up we made our way out to where the boat was tied up. We climbed into the small boat that took us out to our big boat for the day. We were doing an eco-tour as the whale shark season officially ended on August 1st. But we were told a spotter plane would still fly out looking for them and if we saw one we could jump in with them for some extra money. We went a little ways out and had our first snorkel trip off the boat. Lots of coral around and lots of big parrotfish. The waves were quite strong as well and it was a good ... read more

We didn't have to work today so we threw our stuff onto the tour bus and headed down to the beach. It was high tide which was really weird to see as it's always been low tide when we've been. There was very little sand to sit on let alone leave our stuff on. We wanted to go snorkeling as it was our last chance to snorkel here so we found a higher spot to leave our stuff away from the incoming waves. The current was so strong on the reef and with my injured knee I decided not to leave the shallow water. We spent a bit of time in the water and the tide was starting to go back out. So we found a sandy spot and spent the afternoon sunbathing. at about 4pm ... read more
