Hello from Kathmandu, The day I arrived in Kathmandu, on Oct 2nd, I was feeling sick, so I spent most of it resting in the room. Unfortunately, this illness hasn't really started to go away until tonight. The next day I got up and walked to one o the famous stoopa's, or Buddhist temples, in Nepal. It is called Swayambunath. Dad and I decided to walk there as well, because it is only about a 20 minute walk. We're staying in Thamel, which is another touristy area of Kathmandu. I found it really difficult to describe Bangkok and Chiang Mai, because theres so much going on. It's even more so the situation in Kathmandu. The city has been really 'developing' in the past few years. There are basically 3-4 story buildings everywher, so that the whole ... read more

Namaste, Well the last few days have been pretty interesting. On my last day in Bangkok I woke up feeling a little bit unwell and not able to eat anything. I had just figured out the dehydration thing and now this indigestion! Anyways, I decided to power through it an go visit the Emerald Palace Grad Palace, which is basically the No. 1 tourist destination in Thailand. At least it seemed that way. I think all the tourists arrived in Bangkok while I was in Chiang Mai for the weekend. The Emerald palace is this huge temple complex, with a few (?) very famous buddhist relics. One of them is an Emerald Buddha (surprise surprise). It was incredible, the architechture is so ornate and colorful, with all ofthis gold, and glass mosaics. There is one part of ... read more

Hello! I'm back in the city of Bangkok, after an 'interesting' train ride. On the way to Chaing Mai, I was ony this loverly train, with comfy beds, that was really quiet and private. Somehow, when we booked the tickets back to Bangkok, we booked onto the cheaper train, which I like to call the Dinosaur train. Holy cow, that train was nuts. It was so wild, it was similar to the jolts you get when a plane touches down on the runway. I'm not so sure about travelling by train anymore, to be honest. It was also 3 hours late into the station which didn't help. But honestly, it wasn't that bad. I just chalk it up to part of the experience. Once we got into Bangkok Dad and I took the subway, which is ... read more

Hey guys, Yesterday was really great weather in Chiang Mai, it didn't rain at all! I had a delicious breakfast at the Peppermint cafe, some glass noodle soup wit vegetables. Here they don't do all the flavorings of the soup for you, they let everyone do it themselves. So alongside the soup you get four little tins with different sauces and spices: each one if spicy, sweet, salty, or sour. Those are the four basic components of Thai food, so your supposed to kind of make your own favorite ratio. We walked along the alley from our guesthouse onto the road beside the moat that surrounds the city and flagged down a taxi to take us to the Zoo. We really wanted to go to the top of Doi su tep mountain, but the previous night ... read more

Hey everyone! So I got tired of writing out similar stuff in e-mails, so Alex told me to just write a blog like he did in Australia ;) I hope all of Southridge doesn't start reading it though. Last night after it stopped monsooning Dad and I caught a Tuk Tuk to the Bangkok train station. We took an overnight train to Chaing Mai, which is way in the North of Thailand, about 750km away. It was really cool, partly because I've never traveled by train before. We had an upper and lower berth, and were across from two americans from LA, a brother and sister who were traveling together as well. Before I got on the train I also bought a snack, some fresh pineapple from a tiny fruit stand in the middle of the ... read more
