Cool pictures! Hi! I was born there and your pictures are awesome! I have not been to this skating park. It looks great! Oh...and KTV is SOOOOOO "in" over there! I always go when I go there :)
Simply WOW Kyle:
I am totally overwhelmed with your pictures! You have an incredible eye for framing a shot and catching "THE MOMENT." Sure you don't want to go into journalism? I think I have a few connections (--: Not only are you a fabulous writer, but an incredible photographer.
I'm sharing your blog with the young woman who works with me. I think I told you about her. Her name is Elizabeth and she is from China. She is loving your stuff as well.
Keep on enjoying!
Love,
Sammy
We miss you I am just so glad everything turned around for you. I can't wait for you to come back so we can see all your beautiful pictures! We love you lot's, take care,
Danielle and the boys!
I am not squeamish but... the last two pics entered into the category of "too much information." Glad you are recovering from your latest encounter with Asian luck. My understanding of karma is that it is quite possible you are replenishing rather than diminishing.
matching stitches!! Hi Kyle, i will be sure to show this to Grandma today since she had the same stitches on her left eye! Of course, hers wasn't from playing basketball...then she fell again and ended up in the ER with open stitches so do be careful, Kyle!! i hope you had a bullet to bite when you got the stitches w/o anaesthia...i had stitches on my chin when i was 5 on the USS Liner crossing the Atlantic and my Dad passed out from the pain!
love, mom
Those pictures are beautiful. Hope you're enjoying school, work, and life in China. Sounds like things are going really well over there...I can't wait to hear more about it. Miss you!

hooray! hooray for kyle! glad you made it to your spot. im surprised you didnt mention the language barrier being as much of a problem as i thought it would be. but those pictures are awesome keep taking many and uploading them for my viewing pleasure. im jealous you get to hang out in/near pagodas. i miss you michael phelps.
I'm glad you're OK Kyle- had no idea this happened until tonight. I'm so sorry it occured. We're all concerned back here and wishing you a much brighter rest of your trip. Try to keep your wits about you, but don't let it ruin a great experience (I know this can come across as blathering bullshit...I hate positive advice in the immediate wake of tragedy, but I'm on the level). Take care of yourself. I hope your friend (who I'm taking the liberty of assuming is not Polis who traveled over from Aus) is much better.
you need your boys hey man im really sorry to hear about this. its so awful how a few people can ruin an experience in an entire country for you, but hopefully eventually you will be able to enjoy the good times you had there. good luck with getting back your stuff, but remember thats all it is, even though its really important to you (and you know how i am about my technology), im really glad you made it out ok. let me know if you want me to send anything, from your house or stores or whatever it is, just send me a message. much love, stay safe.
Wow Kyle, Im so sorry that that happened to you. A similar thing happened to my friend here in Buenos Aires. They came up to him at a bus stop, kicked and beat him and then took his stuff. Its a sobering experience and really shakes you up. On the one hand, I've had so many great experiences meeting random nice people in this city, but on the other hand these types of experiences make me question where I should draw the line between meeting and hanging out with strangers. It's such a hard line to draw; for example for you, your connection with Vivi saved you guys, while the connection with those guys ended up in a disaster. So how do you know who to trust and who to avoid? And then comes the whole issue of discrimination and such. Its complicated and something I've been thinking about a lot here. Hope you are able to enjoy the rest of your trip and I hope your friend is recovering alright. See you in bethesda.
un abrazo,
Katie
Save Journey Glad to hear Brian is doing better physically.
Very happy to hear you are thinking mostly positive thoughts about this first leg of the trip. I love the title of your most recent posting, "Moving On." It would be so easy for most people to head back home. You and Brian have the right attitude...moving on to the next journey makes you the winner. Giving up makes the thugs the winners. Safe journey for your next phase of the trip. Can't wait to hear more about the this next adventure.
Love, Sammy
Wow! Aunt Robin says that you need to come home right now!! This had only added to her opinion that no one should ever leave the US.
We are glad that you both are OK and I imagine that Brian will have a few scars to show his children. I am not sure that everyone would have responded they way you guys did so despite the loss of your possessions you did a great job of taking care of yourselves!
The best part is that you got all the bad stuff from your trip is done in the beginning so I am sure the rest of the trip will be great!
Close Call! Hey Kyle:
They say a good landing is any one you can walk away from. Sounds like this is a tough lesson in street-smarts. I'm sorry for your loss but grateful to my Higher Power that it was your possessions and not your life (or Brian's).
Don't let this sour you on humanity and don't let it kill your vacation. Relatively inexpensively you have learned that not everyone who smiles at you wishes you well but now you will likely be more descerning and smarter and safer for it.
Remember Railay.
I'm sure that your Dad is all over this but if I can help in any way, let me know.
Love,
Uncle Chip
sorry for the news What a terrible experience. We are so glad that you are both okay. I hope that you will be able to recover from this incident and enjoy your trip. We are eager for news! - Laurie Horvitz
HOORAY! I am already thoroughly enjoying your blog! I'm sorry to hear about your pal Jason, am jealous of the cheap housing/meals, laughed at your description of the flower picture and again at the tuk-tuk pictures. Stay safe! Away from those tuk-tuks! Everything looks beautiful, keep the posts coming...especially ones with pics of the islands!
Awesome That all sounds so cool. Especially the $3 meals..... I expect that you're doing some serious damage. Great to hear from you - keep up the posts!!
good start! always love hearing Thailand virgins first experiences of this wonderful country. Just got back from my 15th trip, best country in the world!
Have a good trip Kyle, be sure to visit Phi Phi and Koh Lanta if you can!
You Are One Great Writer I am so impressed with your writing! I read your most recent entry before the pics went up. You writing style was so vivid and active my mind was visualizing everything! I have a job for you when you get back.
I can't wait for more of your entries. I so want to be there!
Sounds Wonderful! Not boring at all. Hey Kyle:
I'm jealous...I'm jealous...I'm jealous...I'm jealous...I'm jealous...I'm jealous...I'm jealous...I'm jealous...I'm jealous...
