No
Sometimes no means no. I hate the high pressure and lies. Sad really. They'd sell more with a softer approach.

A softer approach
You are so right. I consider myself to be a generally polite person, so it annoys me to be rude to the hucksters just so I can get away from them.

Taksim
The name is enough to excite me...where the bleeding heart of Turkey sometimes spills out. Also reminds me as does this blog that Turkey has been at the top of our wish-list for years and we have not yet made it. Enjoy it for us!

Seeing Turkey
I consider it an honor for you to see Turkey through my eyes.
21st July 2015

I loved Taksim.... the buskers. the side lanes with the bars and live music and markets, the energy and dress of the young people in particular, and the traditional eating places amongst the glitz of the new. Hope you get to East Turkey too.....
22nd July 2015

Taksim
I won't be going to eastern Turkey on this trip, but there is certainly enough to keep me busy is Istanbul. I also really enjoyed wandering down alleys. There is more about Istiklal Street coming up.

Priority #1: take cat photos!
I'm so happy you're through Customs--let the fun begin! I'm happy to hear that you've been communicating with Allison about the local attractions. Post some pix next time --maybe of you visiting with the cats of Istanbul?
20th July 2015

Cats!
I have started a whole folder of cat pictures. I was having a lemonade in a cafe this morning when a cat jumped up into the other chair and took a nap.

Greetings from California!
Hi Karen! I loved your description about arriving in Istanbul. Keep writing and I'll keep checking in! Take care, and I want to hear all about it when you get home! :)

Next chapter?
Well, I want to know what John Doe replied to your declaration ..... hm... I am assuming he did not agree to come traveling with you then? But what about free trips to the airport (that could be good no?). ....Oooh well.
18th May 2015

Sigh...
"John Doe" and I amicably parted ways. I still run into him on occasion, and we are on friendly terms, but I don't plan on stopping my travels anytime soon.

Genetic cousins
Certainly we travel bloggers are all linked by the wanderlust gene and we are grateful. Curosity and restlessness ....describes us perfectly. I'm thrilled to have this genetic malady. HA! Sorry the date didn't work out but for people like us it is hard to share our passion when they are sitting at home. The only question for now is....which country is next?
21st March 2015

There's always the next trip...
Well, I've bumped into people I knew in airports, so you never know.
14th March 2015

It's All in the Genes
I blogged this "gene DRD4 helps control dopamine, and the variant DRD4-7R has been tied to curiosity and restlessness" in my blog "Inspiring the Nomad". Conclusive evidence that this gene affects TBers. Be encouraged Karen. 'Tis a good gene...but do you also have long legs?
14th March 2015

Sadly, no
No, I didn't get the long legs, just the curious mind. In fact, as I get older, I'm getting shorter.
13th March 2015

I must have one or more of those in my genetic maakeup!
Loved the DNA info. I too love airplanes and spent the first six months in my downtown hi-rise condo in San Diego photographing the in-coming flights to Lindbergh Field. My passion now is in the drivers seat of my RV so last year I drove the RV to Alaska, along with 8 other RV's and we spent 2 1/2 months together traveling through British Columbia, the Yukon, into Alaska and then on a variety of ferries through the inland passage. The scenery was as spectacular as everyone said it was and I am still going through the photos and constantly adding them to a power point I started. I would love to see some of your photos on the LSG home page, so if you are so inclined send a few to Larry and ask him to upload them. Nikki

Always moving
I don't think the mode of transportation matters, it's the burning desire to see what's around the next corner or over the next hill. Isn't this a great world we live in?
12th March 2015

If you ever do get the urge to map your genes....
I suggest 23andMe. This site was recommended to me by my son in law who worked at the NIH Human Genome Project. He is still researching human genes, but for a biotech company. I still have to take action to follow his advice, but I must have those genes too.
12th March 2015

Gene sequencing
I wonder if the gene mapping companies currently check for this variant? But then, I don't think I need to go through the expense to see if I have the "wanderlust" gene. I think my passport proves it.
12th March 2015

Genotype
I'm fairly sure every blogger on TB has some link to those genes! I don't need proof that I have wanderlust, but I would still love to get my genome sequenced :)
12th March 2015

I agree...
I think everyone on this site is a distant - maybe very distant - cousin. But isn't that kind of fun to think about?
1st February 2015

Hello Karen
You are seeing so much of the world and your adventures make us want to get on the road again. For now, we live vicariously through your adventures. Love hearing your impressions.

Happy to be of service
There is so much to see and do in this beautiful, exasperating, interesting world. I'm thinking about where to go next, Turkey sounds interesting, but so does Vietnam. I'm open to suggestions!

Interesting history. Sorry they didn't let you in.

I learned a lot...
There is a lot of history of which I was unaware around the Chinese in various countries doing everything they could to help defeat the Japanese during WWII. The cruelty inflicted on the Chinese in Singapore when the Japanese invaded is stunning.
