Bear with me, I HAVE taken tons of pics already, despite the fact that I've only been here for 10 days now. My camera, however, doesn't seem so willing to participate in any blog entries so until I figure out how trick it to connect to my computer, you're just gonna have to wait a little longer. Otherwise my internship is going great. We're launching green.travel in a couple of weeks which is really exciting! The house I'm living at is good and the people I'm living with are even better. I feel confident that even though it's gonna be 9 (one week has already passed!) long weeks, I'll have tons of work to do during the weekdays and trips planned during the weekends, to keep me occupied until I fly to New York. And now ... read more

Since my dad is here visiting, we took a roadtrip for the weekend- starting in Portland, taking freeway 18 west to Lincoln City, then highway 101 (which has always been a dream of mine to drive) south past Newport. We spent the night in Newport before driving back east on highway 20, stopped for breakfast in Corvallis (home to Oregon State University and the Beavers), drove through the mountains in Warm Springs Indian Reservation before reaching Mt. Hood from south and coming back home to Hood River. ... read more

Europe » Denmark » Region Hovedstaden » Copenhagen July 28th 2010

Johan and I made a short visit to Copenhagen yesterday, by taking the boat over to Helsingør and the train down the coast to København. We strolled along Strøget ( I had to go inside EVERY Swedish store that had a sale, hehe) and further down to Nyhavn, while enjoying a Ben & Jerry's and watching the boats and tourists. Things to eat or drink while in Denmark: Citronvann - lemonade/soft drink with a sour lemon taste Dansk pølse - Danish, red hot dogs (served with Danish mustard and ketchup) KFC - enjoy it while you're there, Sweden has nothing in comparison Pilsner - Carlsberg, Tuborg, Harboe, Bjørne Bryg, BB, Norrebro.. you name it. ... read more

Europe » Iceland » Southwest » Reykjavík April 5th 2010

The rumor about Reykjavik's nightlife is true! We went out on Saturday to a place on Laugavegur called Oliver's, which happened to be the most crowded and popular nightclub in Reykjavik city centre. The music was great, the dancefloor was pumping, the people were wonderful and the beer wasn't at all as expensive as one had imagined. Yesterday, after a long mornings sleep and a tired hangover, we took the bus out to Blue Lagoon (one of the geothermal spas) and bathed for a couple of hours. The water was steaming hot and it did good This morning we went whale watching just of the coast of Reykjavik bay. There wasn't any action for a couple of hours until the last 40 minutes when we saw a group of what I thing was Purpoises (spelling?). From ... read more

Having been back in Sweden for almost three months now with terrible weather conditions (snow, cold, ice, rain, a little more snow, rain, some more ice, freezing cold and so on) when the rest of Europe has reached springtime, has made me long for another trip. Of course I would prefer going somewhere warm when, as you all know, Sweden's not really the typical SSS (sun, sand, sea) country. Anyway, on Saturday I'm heading on my first adventure up north - to Iceland. 4 days of bathing in hot springs (the Blue Lagoon), whale watching, visiting vulcanos, waterfalls and geysers. And last but not least - experiencing the well reputated nightlife of Reykjavik. It'll be awesome! /TTFN said the grass widow... read more

Sun 27th: Came to Boracay, via Kalibo airport, a couple of hours later than we expected. We have a way of being booked on flights that are last minute delayed. Checked in at Dave's Straw Hat Inn, a highly recommended place to stay if you're thinking about going to Boracay. The cottages are great, modern and clean with warm water showers, cable TV, fan, air con and the staff are courteous and very personal and friendly. Went out to dinner along the beach, accompanied by some lady boys doing fire poi and singing rather dreadfully, haha. Mon 28th: Headed down to the dive shop "Water colors" first thing in the morning. Both Johan and I planned to do the Open Water Diving course, so we had to fill out some health insurance forms and since both ... read more

Asia December 26th 2009

We got up a bit earlier this morning and after breakfast we got a ride with one of the hotels service cars down to Pagsanjan, a 2 hour drive. We past the Tagaytay mountain (I think) and hundreds of rice fields along the way. The countryside and the djungle here in the Philippines is fantastic. Once we got to Pagsanjan we got a ride with to tiny but never the less strong, boatsmen up the river to the first set of falls. There we took a short break and met a bunch of crazy, happy koreans which we got to accompany on a raft when we got to the second set of falls. Some other boatguys took us underneath the falls and it was lucky we were wearing helmets and life vests 'cause the weight and ... read more

Asia » Philippines » Manila December 25th 2009

Things to eat in the Philippines while here: - Lunch at Jollibee - Adobe (pork and chicken stew) - Mountain dew - Red horse - Fresh fruit smoothies (papaya, mango, watermelon, kiwi) Things that don't taste the same around the world: - Diet coke - Starbucks coffee - White bread - Cigarettes - Pale beer/pilsner Going down to Pagsanjan falls tomorrow morning for some canoeing/rafting, and the further on to Boracay Island the day after tomorrow. Manila's been really quiet today, due to Christmas day celebrations. We went to Market Market this morning but it was closed to we took a taxi to Ayala center (Glorietta malls) instead which opened at noon, and did some more shopping. Seems like the only thing we're doing here, but there's really not much in the city to see. Our ... read more

Asia » Philippines » Manila December 23rd 2009

Landed in Manila earlier this afternoon. Everything positive I had to say about taxis in Singapore, I now take back. Saying they drive poorly here is an understatement. Traffic rules don't seem to apply, neither do they have traffic lights or seat belts. Terrifying. The situation in this city is harder to grasp than Singapore, the poverty here shows everywhere, even just outside the hotel. After check in (we hadn't pre booked, just took a shot at a Best Western Hotel which turned out to have a few rooms available) we went for a look at Mall of Asia and had something to eat, and now we're back at the hotel bar. Tomorrow it's Christmas eve (the day we celebrate in Sweden) and we haven't got any plans yet, except for logging on to a computer ... read more
