I wonder what kind of tree that is in the 7th frame. I notice that the women wear SKIRTS and that even the kids all seem to have some kind of footwear (not barefoot). Must be a pretty well off village. It also looks very clean.
Fascinating! Loved all the photos - and although one of them was titled "Kayla, trying NOT to look hot", I was thinking that's impossible - Kayla IS hot!!!
Your pictures have captured the essence of the marketplace, and I loved seeing the colorful t-shirts and clothing juxtaposed against the desert colors of the huts and sand. Also, a favorite was the Zebra on the grounds, looking so nonchalant. And, of course, the Victoria Falls photos were amazing.
I've been noticing quite a lot of greenery along the way. I figured it would be much more baren. Really like the the elephants. African elephants are much cooler than Asian ones.
Hopefully, the lion didn't swallow the plastic bottle. Nice to see the whole group of tourists and interesting how the camp chef prepares things over the open fire.
Sorry I know you'll be very disappointed not to have the videos and the camera. Hopefully, Kayla, you have a lot of still pictures you'll be able to share with us when you get home.
OH NO!!! I am grieving with you - actually groaning out loud repeatedly over the loss of your camera and all that amazing footage. What a tragedy, as this is a very appropriate word. So sorry for you, and can only imagine your disappointment. Don't you wish you could just turn the clock back one minute???
It sounds like the rest of your adventures are pretty exciting and very informative and obviously increasing your knowledge of all things African. Hopefully, this event won't spoil the rest of what is happening and you can truly enjoy all that is still left to experience.
Greg is in Kelowna today, and travelling up north on his business excursion - no 500 species of wild birds to listen to. I arrived in Arizona yesterday with my niece and am also enjoy high temperatures, but no humidity!
Take care and thanks for taking the time to post all your information. We are very interested!
Judy
Glad to hear from you again! Richard and Kayla,
Missed hearing from you, so good to hear. We've seen the Okavango Delta on the Discovery channel. Quite a wonderful place filled with so many animals in need of water. Many make a long journey to get there every year.
Can't wait to view photos later! Pray you are over your cold, Kayla.
WOW! I was just responding to your last blog when this one popped in! First of all, we were a little concerned after not hearing from you for a few days - were hoping you were not part of the kudu stew yourselves! This adventure seems to be taking on huge proportions as you experience all this wildlife and African living! Its interesting to actually "hear" the excitement in your voice as you write this Richard....I think its you. Has Kayla finally won you over? Hope Kaylas cold doesn last long and shes well enough to thoroughly enjoy this amazing experience!
The neighborhood is a little less exotic....very quiet with the rain coming down today! IL saw a couple of seagulls make a fly pass awhile ago, and several dogs on the path, but no hyenas laughing. Youll miss the animal sounds when you return home to the quiet Fraser!
Take care and continue to enjoy every aspect of this holiday. Itll wind down before you know it!
Judy and Greg
Sounds like an adventure Sounds like you are having quite the adventure! We gat back home a few hours ago - everything went really well. Thank you for the romantic surprise in our room!!! : )
So much for no contact looks like you have easy access to the internet.
Be safe - can't wait to see the videos!
Ahh....safe in Botswana! Hope your hippos show up on the trip - they would be most fascinating!! I'm trying to imagine an ensuite in a tent and realize it's probably not as fancy as Shoreline, but highly appreciated! Hope you gets lots of sleep. We're in Quebec City for the next six days, but look forward to checking your blog again whenever possible.
Judy
Thanks Hi
Thanks for sending me your blog. Enjoyed the pictures and seeing the area where they live.
Looking forward to following your adventures.
Take Care.
Fondly,
Charley Ann
Thinking of you Loved the photos of the roses - I could almost inhale their scent! How wonderful to spend time with family before THE BIG ADVENTURE. Get lots of rest before the flight and enjoy each moment! We'll be anticipating more posts! We have a friend here from England and are doing a little sightseeing today!
Peach Pie Sorry, we finished the last piece of a real peach pie just tonight, celebrating our return home. Glad to be back, but we could have stayed on the road for at least another few weeks and made our way down to southern Arizona. It was still too hot to go there in September and October.
Our favourite things to do are mostly centered around being in the outdoors and enjoying natural areas, so we are more likely found seeking out the lesser known parts of areas we visit, and the least populated areas. In past years, we've been known to hike for days, hauling heavy packs into remote valleys and forests just to avoid the usual front country crowds and see wild animals truly in the wild. These days, when on the road, we can be found driving the lesser traveled highways and byways in North America. Or on safari in remote parts of Southern Africa.
