I left for the 'big adventure, NZ' 3 months and 3 weeks ago to the day. My travel blog is a bit over due. Here is my tail so far of my trip of a life time.

In order to get my blog up to speed I may have to be brief in places but I won’t miss any of the good bits. I didn’t like Auckland much. I was there just under a week doing trivial things like some essential shopping, sorting bank accounts, booking buses and walking round the city. The lay out of the city is frustrating to navigate. Despite having coastlines on both the Pacific Ocean and Tasman Sea it takes over 30 minutes to get to the closest beach, Michelin Bay which is littered. Still I met some really interesting people. Abut most prominently sticks in my mind. A black Frenchman, who auditioned as an extra on the US TV series Gladiator on a whim, having no previous acting experience, is now earning lots of money working 3-4 ... read more

I remeber the day I left very clearly, not a hazy memory from nearly 4 months ago. I left home at 7pm and it was already dark. The temperature gage in the car read 3C, it had been an unusually sunny but cold October. From home it was a 40 minute drive through very typically English country lanes to the M23, then to Gatwick air port. My parents drove. I arrived at South terminal, familiar from my many flights to Edinburgh over the ast 18 months. I said goodbye to Mum and Dad, it wasn't sad it was more like see you later. I hate air ports.
