I can not wait to explore Spain and the rest of Europe this semester!

Europe » United Kingdom » England » Greater London » Kensington March 24th 2011

My roomates (Alanna and Kristen) and I spent a few days in London visiting Sam.... We left very, very early in the morning on Thursday (think 4:30 from our apartment).... and arrived finally in London around 11 am. We took a bus into London, because we flew into some remote airport in the middle of nowhere, and we got off on Baker Street. This was a good place to stop because we got a few things out of the way early on, the Beatles store, It's Only Rock and Roll (classic rock store: The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, David Bowie etc....), and the house of Sherlock Holmes. Then we headed to our hostel... I guess it was a nice break to speak in English, but it made me miss Spanish a lot... Especially the way people ... read more

Europe » France » Île-de-France » Paris February 21st 2011

Paris is a wonderful city with soooooo much to do! Luckily we had four days there, but that still wasn't enough. We arrived super early on Thursday morning, our flight landed at 8 something. But then our airport wasn't actually in Paris, so we took a bus ride for about an hour to the city center. Weirdly enough, when we landed, nobody was at customs. We literally walked right in the country without speak to anyone or showing our passport... Their metro system is pretty easy, and we got right on it and right to our hostel. After dropping our stuff, we headed for a free, 3.5 hour walking tour. The tour was awesome, and our guide was super funny/knowledgeable. Without her we really wouldn't have known what we were looking at, and in 3.5 hours ... read more

Europe » Spain » Andalusia » Seville February 21st 2011

So i've fallen a little bit behind, but a couple of weekends ago I visited Sevilla. If I ever move to Spain, it will be to my favorite city, Sevilla, I have fallen in love! Sevilla (or Seville), is the capital of Southern Spain (Andalusia) and is either Spain's 3rd or 4th largest city, but you would never know by looking at it. The town is VERY beautiful. There is so much to do in Sevilla, we only got to a few of the more popular cites, but just walking around the city is amazing. To get there, we took a six hour bus ride. Which didn't seem so bad, but the last hour was pretty unbearable. As always, our hostel wasn't bad, not as good as the first couple, but pretty good. Alanna, Kristen, and ... read more

Europe » Spain » Valencian Community » Valencia February 7th 2011

This weekend, we went to Valencia. Valencia is located in the southeast of Spain, right along the coast. Just like Granada, we took a bus from Madrid which is super convenient for us. We show up when we are ready and this time, we literally ran right on a bus. The ride there was about 4.5 hours and pretty uncomfortable this time. We booked a hostel that was about a fifteen minute walk from the bus station, and we really enjoyed the whole walk. It was warmer in Valencia and covered in palm/orange trees. Our hostel was nice and we had a room just the four of us (Sarah, Kristen, Alanna, and I), which was very lucky. Our hostel was conveniently located for the nightlife and overall, which made it really easy for us to go ... read more

Europe » Spain » District of Madrid » Madrid January 30th 2011

So over the past week my roommates and I have gotten to cross a lot of things/places off of our list to do here in Madrid. The first thing we did was an excursion with our school after class. We were fortunate enough to go the Reina Sofía Museum, gratis! This museum along with Madrid's other two world-famous museums (El Prado and Thyssen-Bornemisza) are all situated on the same street in a beautiful part of Madrid known as the Golden Museum Triangle. The Museo Sofía Reina was amazing and gigantic. With our school tour we only had the time to highlight a few very influential artists. We saw a lot of work from Juan Gris, Picasso, Joan Miró, and of course Dalí. My favorites were Picasso and Dalí. Luckily, we were permitted to take photos in ... read more

Europe » Spain » Andalusia » Granada January 24th 2011

This weekend I went to Granada (located in the South of Spain) with a bunch of friends. We took a bus right from Madrid which took about five hours and was very convenient. Obviously I slept the whole way there and back, as I always do. We arrived at the hostel very late afternoon. As this was many of our first time staying in a hostel, some of us forgot our passports. We didn't realize we would need them because we were staying in Spain, but luckily we got them emailed to us at the hostel. I was definitely spoiled from my first hostel experience. The place was amazing! Very clean, safe, friendly, and beautiful. The guy that decorated the place loves color and flowers... After taking care of our passports and settling in, the hostel ... read more

Europe » Spain » Castile & León » Segovia January 16th 2011

Sometimes our school organizes excursions outside of Madrid to neighboring towns on Saturdays. This Saturday my friends and I went to the town of Segovia. The ride was about an hour and a half each way, but luckily I brought a blanket and slept both ways. The town was very beautiful. It has a famous, super old aqueduct built by the Romans that was in use until 1959! We also visited a huge castle, which is apparently the castle Disney modeled their castle after. But to me it looks more like Hogwarts. We also went to a gigantic cathedral but we all kind of started loosing focus there. One thing I found interesting there is that today was the celebration day of San Anton (not San Antonio!), god of animals I believe, and everybody is welcome ... read more

Europe » Spain » District of Madrid » Madrid January 11th 2011

So things have been getting a lot easier for us Americans. Madrid has very, very few english speakers, so the first few days were rough. Now we are learning to communicate much better and find our way around. The metro is much easier/nicer than those in America, which is good because we need it to get to school. Today was our first day at our University: Universidad de Antonio Nebrija. The school is pretty cool and in a beautiful location atop an enormous hill overlooking Madrid (photos to come). It takes about 20 minutes on the metro and an additional 20 minutes walking to get there, but I don't mind it. The weather here is not as cold as I imagined, or maybe I am just prepared. I had an oral exam today but I think ... read more

Europe » Spain » District of Madrid » Madrid January 7th 2011

So I arrived today around 8:00 in the morning (local time here, so about 2 am there). The program that UF uses was super organized. They had a man waiting in the airport with our names on a card, he then drove us straight to our apartment and a lady met him there. She showed us up, gave us our keys etc. The building is very cool and probably in the best location we could have asked for. Our view is amazing, we are right near a lot of pretty parks, shopping districts (including Plaza Mayor), and the Palace!. The apartment itself is really great also. It's three bedrooms, 2 baths (I'm living with two really nice girls from UF: Kristen and Alanna). We have a very spacious living room, kitchen with washing machine, and most ... read more
