I previously travelled for 7 months in 2006/2007 starting in Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Antarctica and finishing in Brasil.

I'm now heading to Nepal in February 2010 with a one-way ticket and no time-constraints, and no idea where I'll end up!

Asia » Nepal » Annapurna March 25th 2010

'Namaste' everyone! I can't quite believe it's been over a month since I left England. As most of you know I left Kathmandu in a hurry - it was far too hectic for me to 'find my feet'. So a flight to Pokhara gave me my first actual view of the Himalaya(s), which are spectacular as you can see. Pokhara is situated south of the Annapurna's and is a great place to explore these majestic mountains or just relax by the lake. After 5 days of 'chilling' I thought it was time to get going, so after a final kit check it was off to the start of the Annapurna Circuit. 220km of rough terrain, anticipating 10-15km of walking per day, climbing over 1000m altitude in a single day, with the highest point being the Thorung ... read more

Hi all, just a quick hello to let you know that my next adventure is fast approaching. I am flying one-way to Nepal on Monday 22nd February and I have very little idea what it may bring, but I'm sure I'll have a great time! So if you would like to stay upto date of my progress then sit back, relax & wait for the awesome pictures and horrendous stories to arrive. And in the meantime you can enjoy a picture of me in Cheddar Gorge just a few days ago.... read more

South America » Brazil » Rio Grande do Norte » Natal April 11th 2007

With 1 week left in Brasil and indeed South America, it was definetely time to get into holiday mode, relax and unwind. We found a lovely place to stay in Natal with all you can eat breakfasts a swimming pool and the beach just a few steps. The beach was very nice, lots of people selling everything from CD's, jewellery, drinks and of course barbecued food, clothes and one guy had a stall with mannequins wearing dresses (the mannequins not the guy). The weather was hot, applying spf40 and you would still get burnt, the cool sea was a welcome relief. Natal was looking like the perfect place to finish, offering everything you could want from a week's holiday and with the second cleanest air in the world (second to Antartica) what more could we ... read more

We didn´t have a great experience in Sao Paulo, the city is huge, 3rd most populated in the world I think with 17 million people, and we also got ill, we don´t know how, maybe it was the food but we were cooking for ourselves using the kitchen of the hostal. Rachael was far worse than me, I managed to keep my food down! so it meant that I had time to catch up on all the things I´ve been meaning to do, like my TravelBlog! We did manage a day out and walked around this huge city, we went up to the top of a tall building that looks similar to the Empire State building and we had great views of the whole city, it was clear now how 17 million people can live here!! ... read more

The flight to Buenos Aires took 5 hours more or less, alot better than the 50 hours by bus it would have taken. BA is a lovely city, very big but still retains a great atmosphere and feeling. The restaurants, food and entertainment were all excellent, we managed to watch a Tango show one evening which was very good. It has great transport so you can get everywhere easily and despite the heat of 35 degrees or more it was a very intersting and enjoyable place. We visited Eva Peron´s gravestone and the Museum of her which was very interesting, I never knew she was so influential and helped so many people. We stayed in BA for 4 nights and then left for Puerto Iguazu at the northern tip of Argentina, for its famous Iguassu Falls. ... read more

Antarctica January 17th 2007

Arrived late Friday 22nd December in Ushuaia from Puerto Natales, another long bus journey with another border crossing this time being the third time entering Argentina. Had to get a ferry as well because Ushuaia is on an Island, Tierra del Fuego or Land of Fire. We hurried out of Puerto Natales so as not to be stuck there for Christmas and although we didnt know what to expect in Ushuaia, we were pleasantly surprised. It´s a main port serving many cruise ships, but the town is small enough not to be too impersonal and large enough to have everything you want and with snow-capped mountains as the backdrop, it was a nice place to spend Christmas. Christmas day and we had met an English guy travelling on his own, we had also met up with ... read more

South America » Argentina January 17th 2007

Well I seem to be struggling with keeping this Travelblog upto date. I cant beleive so much has happened since I last wrote! Anyway, on with the story... ...arrived in El Bolson, an old hippy town, very quiet but it was nice to relax there for a couple of days before trekking for 3 days 2 nights with Rachael. It was a tough trek, what made it worse is that we were so busy chatting away that we lost the path and continued for about an hour and half in what seemed to be impossible terrain, scrambling up the side of a mountain, losing our footings and sweating hard. We managed to rejoin the trail and it soon became a pleasant trek with lovely scenery. We were carrying our own tent, sleeping bags, mats, camping stove ... read more

Arrived in Salta after a very long journey overnight and the first thing I noticed was nice roads and European cars! Yeah not too much to get excited about but the feel of the place was so different to where I had been before, this was definetely more like Europe and I wasn´t sure if I was going to like it or not. Salta is a big city, nice and clean and good restaurants with great bife de chorizo (steak) and lots of shops but I wasn´t here for them so I quickly left after 2 nights for Mendoza, the heart of the wine region in Argentina. We went for a bikesandwines tour, your given a bicycle and a map of the vineyards and you cycle round to them tasting their wine, great idea! Mendoza is ... read more

South America » Bolivia » Potosí Department » Uyuni December 10th 2006

So after leaving Potosi and the Sillver mines I was now on my way to Uyuni and a 3 day tour to see the Salar de Uyuni or the Salt plains. There were 6 of us squashed into a Toyota 4WD Landcruiser with all our luggage on top and the first stop was a graveyard for trains, not that exciting but worth seeing nonetheless. Then it was onto the Salt plains, a huge expanse that used to be a salt lake and has now dried up and in some places is 20 metres thick of salt! As we continued we came to an island full of cacti growing very high, quite a surreal place in the middle of this salt desert. That night we visited a necropolis, a place where a group of Ecuadorians thousands of ... read more

South America » Bolivia November 13th 2006

Left Arequipa, Peru and headed for Puno on the edge of Lake Titicaca. Didnt want to stay there as I had heard it was a bit of a dump. Arrived at the bus terminal and there was one bus leaving for Copacabana straight away! Had to rush to buy a ticket and we were on our way to Bolivia, armed with a snckers each and some soda bread, that should last us the 3 hour journey. We arrived at the border control after 2 hours or so, very straight forward, and now were in Bolivia! Copacabana was a nice place, reminded me of the mediterranean a little, the water was very calm nd the weather was warm. The first thing we noticed that evening was how cheap everything was! I had a 2 course meal, soup ... read more
