June and Anns Excellent Adventure

June and Ann

We are two Buffalo girls heading out for their first mult-day bike trip?. We'll be driving to Ohiopyle, Pennsylvania, about an hour south of Pittsburgh, to begin our journey. The plan is to bike about 40 miles a day, take in some Frank Lloyd Wright sites, enjoy some fabulous scenery, and try not to hurt ourselves. We'll keep you posted....

Ann: I'm being forced to write today's entry because I feel asleep in the middle of writing last nights entry. Day 3 was the shortest ride at 31 miles and the roughest one. The ride started in Cumberland, MD and ended in Pawpaw, WV. ( Yes, that is a real place. We've also seen places here that are called knobs and hollows.) We biked along the C&O Canal tow path, which is the path the mules walked on to pull boats down the canal. It was more like a goat path than a bike path. Lots of rocks, roots and mud causes lots of dodging, bouncing, and jiggling. It was beautiful country and we were riding right between the C&O canal and the Potomac River. Lots of wildlife sightings - deer, groundhogs, rabbits, heron, eagle, and ... read more

June: we began day two with a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright's Falling Water in Mill Run, Pennsylvania. Breathtaking! A must for everyone's bucket list. After a Trail side lunch we set out for the day. Over a 1900 foot viaduct, over the Eastern Continental Divide, thru a 3,000+ foot, holy shit, railroad black as night railroad tunnel, lots more tunnels and beautiful early fall scenery. We landed in Cumberland, Maryland for the evening. Just for the record, our personal seat adjustment valets, Taylor and Chris had much lighter duty today. Our group of 14 enjoyed a laughter and whiskey soaked dinner at a local establishment. A lot of Buffalo wings and Maryland crabs were sacrificed. All our riders are in good shape after 80 miles. Hitting the trail early tomorrow, hoping it stays dry??... read more

June: one and done! 40 miles biked. Ok so I used three different bikes and four seats but my personal bike seat valets Chris and Taylor took good care of me. Exceptional scenery and perfect 70 degree weather. We arrived at the Trillium Lodge for a meal prepared by our guides. For what followed, I cannot accept any responsibility ... Ann: You know you've found the right bike group when 6 out of the 12 pull out a top shelf bottle of whiskey from their luggage. After dinner and three bottles of whiskey, the men sang Punjabi love songs. They taught us to dance to Bollywood songs and we taught them The Twist. Oh yeah, and we rode a bike 40 miles. #Internationalfun ... read more

June: We decided to head out early to visit the Frank Loyd Wright house Kentuck Knob, near Ohiopyle. It is a magnificent house set up on the hill in the woods with a view of three states. The owners were friends with the Kaufmans, the owners of Falling Water. The property includes a really interesting sculpture garden. After a lovely dinner in Uniontown Pennsylvania we went back to the hotel to pack, unpack, repack our bike gear, I guess we are a little nervous about tomorrow . Ann: she left out the part about the back mountain detour through "Deliverance" land. Thank you google maps. Then the ride down the road that had multiple "Dangerous Mountain Road" signs. #Jesustakethewheel It's all good !... read more
