Geo: -34.8939, -56.1568So just 3 days after misplacing his computer, he has it back in his possession. I say that is pretty good timing. Jim and Craig Williams met me at the airport. They do not own a vehicle. We took the city bus back to their beach front apartment. Again, I was pretty tired, so I fell asleep and slept from 2pm - 6pm. The Williams were staying with the Jim and Cheryl for 4 weeks while their apartment gets renovated, so I stayed in a tiny storage room which was perfect for me. I had told Jim that I did not have anything on my agenda while I stayed there for 3 days, except to get a souvenir spoon. On Tuesday morning, Denise and I went walking along the board walk. Montevideo is very European ... read more

Geo: 14.6367, -90.5383Thursday morning, Oct 23, we offered to take Jim and Cheryl E to the airport for their flight back to Uruguay with layovers in El Salvador and Peru. After checking their bags in, we went up to the food court and visited for a while. I was asking them about the South America cruise that goes from Buenos Aires to Santiago, Chile under the tip of S America. They gave us some helpful hints. They took this cruise 2 years ago. We said goodbye to them around 11am, and they went through security and customs, and Dad and I went to do some errands downtown Guatemala City. We then were eating lunch at the Oakland Mall food court, when Dad checked him iphone and read an email from Jim. Titled: HELP! Jim had taken ... read more

Geo: 49.9957, 8.26768Wednesday morning was beautiful with clear blue skies. We decided to explore Dinkelsbuhl and walked through the cobbled stone streets. Again, we walked into the Cathedral and admire the detail craftsmanship of the construction. We sat on an outdoor patio and had a strudel and I had a pretzel. Again, we watched the world walk by us. Very relaxing. Today, our objective was to drive along the Romantic road, on the winding 2 lane hi-way, through vineyards and small farms and villages with the destination to Comfort Suites at Frankfurt Airport (using points and we wanted to be close to the airport to return the car and get connected back with Captain #19 on Thursday morning.) We stopped in one village and Glenn pulled out his knife to cut the block of bread we ... read more

Geo: 49.0689, 10.3202Tuesday, August 26Today, we headed back towards Frankfurt. We wanted to be in FRA on Wednesday night, so we could meet the Captain and Barbara on Thursday morning. So, I booked us another hotel back in Dinkelsbuhl. This was an easy day for us, as we only drove about 100 miles back up the Auto-Bahn. We did pull off the Auto-Bahn for 3 hours in the city of Ulm and walked through this town. We parked in a parking garage and went to the city center. This was a much larger city than the previous villages we had visited. The city is noted for its large cathedral. It has the largest/tallest cathedral in the world. We got there just before noon and there was an organ concert schedule at that time. Glenn was thrilled ... read more

Geo: 47.5714, 10.7017Saturday, August 23Again, we ate breakfast, then drove on the Romantic Road through the rolling hills and country side. We stopped off in Dinkelsbuhl and drove through that quaint little town, then finally got on the AutoBahn and kept heading south towards the Alps. We stopped at one very nice rest stop with a nice restaurant, coffee shop and bathrooms. We didn't have a map of the area, but I had "googled" how to get to the Pension in Hopferau, but the directions were not all that well written. We got off the Autobahn and started driving on these back country roads. Lots of small road signs telling you the direction of how long it would take to either WALK or DRIVE to the next town. After driving around the countryside, we finally got ... read more

Geo: 50.3118, 11.7712Each morning, we would have breakfast in the hotel/pension. Very good. Fresh fruit. Bread. We normally would grab an apple and/or orange to have with us to snack on during the day. We slept in and didn't start breakfast until 8am, then we headed into Rothenberg to explore the city by 9am. We got there before the tour busses started to arrive. You could really tell a difference when the buses would unload the tourists. We ran into lots of folks, many from Japan and Korea. Glenn was asked to take a photo of these 3 ladies from Israel. Jewish ladies. And we walked away, thinking, wow, just 50 years ago, Jews wouldn't dare step foot onto Germany soil. We enjoyed just a leisure walk, taking our time as we walked around the walled ... read more

Geo: 50.0924, 8.68195Thursday, August 21 Once we arrived in Frankfurt and went through customs, we said goodbye to Scott and Barbara and told them that we would meet them at this same exact location (outside of customs) on Thursday August 28. We rented an Avis rent-a-car. It only had 300 miles on it. Brand new. We decided to drive on out of town and head towards Rothenburg, an old walled city a couple hours from Frankfurt. Once we got on the Auto-bahn, we could drive pretty fast. Glenn got up to 100+ mph at one time. We stopped several times along the way at a rest stop to use the rest room. I would always look for WC (wash closet). Most of the rest stops did not have toilet paper. One rest stop, we had to ... read more

Geo: 32.778, -96.7956Good morning. I thought I would write my monthly note to y'all and just recap our time in Germany. When it became apparent that we were still in the States and could possibly fly over to Frankfurt and return on Scott Russell's last flight, we talked it through and realized that this was one of those time where we had to jump to the opportunity. There have been things that we have chosen not to do, and we have regretted it, so going on that premises', we decided to fly over to Frankfurt on August 20 and return on August 28, Scott's final flight before he retired. (It was Karen's suggestion that we go and spend some time over there, otherwise, I was just thinking of flying over on Wed & return Friday.Wednesday, August ... read more
