New Zealand – Wellington and Able Tasmin – The end of the North Island and it was straight onto the South Island and what a place to start. After finishing a very demanding trek at Mt Doom the next morning we were all on our way to Wellington where we would stop for just one night before catching the ferry to the South Island to a place called Picton, however we would not be stopping in Picton other than picking up a new bus for the beginning of the South Island tour. The first stop on this tour is Albe Tasman which is known for its spectacular coast line, beach’s, treks and its scenery so I was eagerly anticipating good things to come. As mentioned above sadly I only had a few hours to look round ... read more

New Zealand – Tongariro National Park and Whakahoro – Time for a bit of axe throwing and trekking at Mt Doom from Lord of the Rings. After the adrenaline filled past couple of days it was time to head into the wild of the national parks for some trekking. We would first be heading to a cool little place called Blue Duck Lodge in Whakahoro or as its actually pronounced f*ck-a-whore-o which raised a few smiles from the English contingent on the bus every time it was talked about over the microphone. As the name of the lodge suggests you are often able to spot the very rare Blue Duck on the river here but unfortunately we didn’t see one, mainly because we didn’t have time to go to the river, doh! We arrived around three ... read more

New Zealand – Taupo, Rotorua and Maketu - All of a sudden I had become chief Plunkett and to celebrate my achievement I rafted the world’s highest commercial white water rapids and then jumped from a plane , just like any normal day really! I’m on the move again and heading to a sleepy little out crop called Maketu for Stray’s Cultural stop, as mentioned previously I’d been advised that this was a waste of time and money so after making numerous attempts at finding alternative accommodation and trying to seek help from Miss P who quite frankly couldn’t give a sh*t I had no choice but to head to Maketu. There is nothing to do there apart from this staged Cultural night and for the pleasure they hit you for $70 to watch it, bargain ... read more

New Zealand – Hahei and Raglan – Cathedral Cove and some quality left hand brake surf in Raglan whatever that is, Simon or should I say DAN any ideas??? After several attempts I managed to get on a bus departing from Auckland, my driver was a lady called Miss P or aka Miss Perfect as she liked to be called. The bus was fashionably late by about an hour and I was lead to believe it was caused by traffic congestion, however the more time I spent on Miss P’s bus the more I doubted that, let’s just say it was hard to work out if she was a part of tourist group on the bus or actually the driver but one things for sure she was a long way from being perfect. We made our ... read more

New Zealand – Cape Reinga and the Bay of Islands – Hitting the most northern part of NZ with a little bit of sand boarding and a chance to meet some very “special” locals. After a great time in Auckland it was time to head North, my bus arrived and was a beautiful, subtle shade of bright orange with a driver called Bear. I was hoping it was going to be a Bear Grills experience but as it turned out I think he got his name because he hated getting up off his arse! I guess he’s in the right job then. As we headed out to the Bay of Islands I started to get to know my fellow passengers and the group turned out to be a cool bunch so all was going well. The ... read more

New Zealand - Auckland – The beautiful volcano wrapped city and the point when I realised I’ve been in hot countries for way too long because it felt like an arctic blast when I stepped off the plane to a spine chilling temperature of 20 degrees. After a long travel day from Australia I touched down in Auckland and stepped off the plane and thought it was winter, the wind and temperature change really hit me but it was fantastic to feel fresh cool air again after so long, it had already put me in a great mood. I made my way into town on the local bus and decided to take the two kilometre walk to my hostel just so I could take in the beautiful views across the harbour and surrounding areas. My hostel ... read more

Australia – Cairns – Diving at the Great Barrier Reef and a quick visit to Cape Tribulation before I say goodbye to Oz. OK I realise a lot of my blogs of late have been a little negative towards Australia and in particular the weather. I will get the weather out of the way now, it rained during my Great Barrier Reef trip and Cape tribulation but I’m pleased to say it did not ruin either day. This is the end of my moaning and the blogs from now on will be more upbeat. Yes you’ve guessed it I’ve had a word with myself! Diving at the Great Barrier Reef was one of the main things I had been looking forward to so I was very happy to be on board my boat and heading out ... read more

Australia – Airlie Beach Whitsundays – Sailing at the Wet-Sundays, not what I was hoping for and yes I abandoned ship! The Whitsundays is renowned for being one of the most spectacular places to experience the Great Barrier reef and the normal way of doing this is to join a sailing boat and get out there for a couple of days relaxation along with getting involved with some duties on board. With this knowledge in hand I signed up to go out on an ex-racing yacht called Broomstick and I have to say I was quite excited by the prospect. I had taken sensible precautions and invested in sea sickness tablets so as far as I was concerned I was ready to go. The morning of departure arrived and I was a little disappointed to see ... read more

Australia – Fraser Island – 4x4’s, camping and seven girls in my car! Let the fun and games begin. After spending the night at Rainbow beach I would be heading off the following morning on a tour of Fraser Island, the world’s largest sand island. There would be fifty four of us in total forming a convey of eight jeeps. I was put in a group with seven other girls, which for some of you might sound like a dream come true but I soon realised it was going to be challenging when we got in the car and the I-pod’s were plugged into the stereo and the first request was “have you got any Britney!.” Anyway more on this later, back to the tour. After a short drive we got onto the ferry and headed ... read more

Australia – Brisbane, Moreton Island and Noosa – A rainy city experience, a paradise island and a visit to the Australia Zoo! A very random few days. I rolled up in Brisbane and was greeted with heavy rain and this just happened to be the first stop in a while where I didn’t get dropped at the hostel doors, I was gutted. After digging out all my wet weather bag covers and umbrella I headed towards my hostel. It wasn’t so bad until I realised I had made my first error by wearing my flip flops to travel in, basically in the wet they become like Teflon and make me look like Bamby on ice. Well after a close call I was being very cautious but this proved not to be enough, as I crossed the ... read more
