Buenos tardes everyone!! Hmm no comments on here today - love seeing the comments - makes it all worthwhile... so come on you lot!! I have attached photos of the breakfast area of the hotel with our own personal friend and butler who's name I can't spell plus the actual breakfast room, our room and the building across the road from us which is typical of all the buildings here - they're generally built around a square and that is used for a mini park or whatever they want to use it for. There is also a picutre of a hospital - the Hospital de la Santa - an ambitious project which was planned around two avenues and started in 1905 and later completed by the builders son in 1930 - I understand it's the oldest ... read more

Hola - buenas tardes! Well yesterday we woke up to a beautiful day - blue skies and sunshine and freezing - on a Public Holiday so decided to take a leisurely stroll down the famous La Rambla - which is about 10 minutes away from us and have a quiet and easy day. La Rambla is an exciting place to be and a hive of activity all the time but yesterday we saw some of the buskers - how fantastic are they?!! Wow they really are something else - take a close look at the fruit staff picture.... they do expect payment when you take photos of them and some turned away if you didn't pay so you couldn't take the photo. La Rambla is is Barcelona's centrepiece - about 1km long, thriving pedestrian thoroughfare which ... read more

Hello again, Today it drizzled quite a bit but didn't dampen our enthusiasm at all - add an umbrella and we're ready to go!! Again on the local tourist bus and to some of the most famous sites in Barcelona and some indeed - world renowned. First we went to Sagrada Familia or as it's known here - Gaudi's church. This enduring symbol of the cityand its Modernista legacy is this church - Gaudi's other wordly piece de resistance. The 8 spires out of 12 planned, can be seen from most of Barcelona and the church started being built in 1880 and still has a long way to go. It's quite an amazing structure with Gaudi using nature - flowers, trees and honeycomb and many other natural things as the basis of the carvings, ceilings and ... read more

Hello there, We awoke to a day that was bitterly cold and we discovered the city via the tourist bus route and had a great day to see the highlights and touristy things that everyone comes here to see. Must mention we have breakfast here included in the price and it was great - we asked for boiled eggs and we got perfectly boiled eggs - they don't eat those here - usually pastries, cheese and cold meats for breakfast so the eggs are not normally the done thing! Some of the sites we saw was the Gothic quarter which included the original medieval Roman walled city of Barcelona dating back thousands of years ago, World Trade Centre, and then on to the Olympic area where all the facilities were and still are from the 1992 ... read more

Hi everyone, Well today is our 1st day of our second session in Barcelona - pronounced Bathelona - to the uneducated, and we've had a ball. On our last evening on the ship in the fantastic French restaurant we had the most delicious chocolate fondue for dessert - fresh fruit - um yum!! Topped off a great time on the cruise. Next moning when disembarking the ship - which was from 5.30am - 9.30am on a Sunday morning - a bit rude really...!! We then had to line up in a taxi rank and waited for about half an hour for a taxi. We eventually got a taxi to our hotel - which is really bewdiful - we were so surprised - happily so as it is a very large bed sitting room, large flat screen ... read more

Hi everyone, Last full day on our fantastic cruise - arrive in Barcelona tomorrow morning at 5am and can disembark anytime from 5.30 - 9am. Looks like an early morning for all of us - at least we're independent and don't have to have bags ready for pick up by 10pm tonight. We've been at sea yesterday and today and the day before that we spent at Iraklion (Crete) - what a great place for a holiday - we both absolutely loved it. We had the best time and will go back there again thats for sure! We had a great taxi driver which cost us $EU30 to go see more historical rocks and yet the cruise recommended a tour which would have cost us around $EU180 each!! All the taxis here are the latest Mercededs!! ... read more

Hello everyone, Here we are at Piraeus - or just about to leave here after spending a morning touring around Piraeus - for about 5 minutes and then 12kms down the road to Athens. We visited all the usual places, Consitution Square, Royal Palace and saw the guards with pom poms on their shoes, The Acropolis, and many other historical places.... such as the Hard Rock Cafe, KFC and MacDonalds!! From the Acropolis - 200 metres above sea level - we could see all over Athens and think one of the photos shows this. We've confirmed the theory 'beware of Greeks bearing gifts as we discovered - under the Acropolis two cups of tea cost us over EU10!!' 10 Euros equaling approx $16.60!! We were dropped off in downtown Piraeus where we thought we would have ... read more

Hello again, Today we're in Izmir and just about to leave here and onto Athens. Today was about an 8 hour stopover and it was great - while not a lot to be seen historically in that time, we saw a few things and went to the Bazaar here - fantastic and excellent prices and good quality too. We found it very civilised after being harassed everywhere else we've been and it was nice not to have it happen here. We had a taxi driver for 30 Euros for 3 hours and he showed us around the town and also translated for us when necessary - good to have him with us. I bought a nice black leather coat which has cream trim on pockets, hood, and cuffs and am really happy wiht it - also ... read more
