After our farwell to Exmouth dinner at Froth Brewery in Exmouth with Keith and Jo and a good nights sleep we set off for Tom Price. After six hours driving we pulled into a camping spot on the edge of the road about 100klm out of Tom Price. Then onto Tom Price for a night to replenish food supplies and catch up on washing etc. There is a Coles in Tom Price and the prices are really reasonable because Rio Tinto subsidises the freight for supplies to be bought into town. Friday onto Karijini National Park 100klms all sealed roads, school breaks up here today so were very lucky to get a spot booking at the end of May to get 2 nights at Dales Camp Ground and then another two nights at the overflow camp, ... read more

Well we had an uneventful trip from Kalbarri to Denham, on the way into Denham about 45klms out stopped off at Shell Beach, amazing beach with shells as far as the eye can see and in places are 10metres deep, along the beach! We are staying at the Tasman Park Seaside Caravan Park, a great park, it is huge! It has three-four levels and we are very lucky to have beautiful view over the seaside and the boats out in the bay. Such a nice little seaside place....couple of pubs, restaurants, petrol station and the Shark Bay World Heritage Discovery Centre, well worth a visit! We loved walking around the town. On our second day walked out to Little Lagoon near the start of the Francois Peron National Park, took a couple of streets to get ... read more

Thursday saw us push through to Norseman to fill up and then a further 90klm up the road to our stop for the night Widgie Tavern and Roadhouse which is on the road heading towards Kalgoorlie. You may all think why we didn't turn left and head down to Esperance and Albany, we have been there twice before and thought we would give it a miss this time and concentrate on the northern areas. So Widgiemooltha is in the Goldfields region of WA and there were plenty of mine workers in for beers and a counter meal, in fact I was the only female in the place! Friday saw us go through Coolgardie and onto Southern Cross where we fuelled up and had some lunch, so now being in the Wheatbelt area, there are nine regions ... read more

Well its just gone 5 months we have been on the road in the van and already have done 10,000 klms. We were going to stay overnight at Nullabor Roadhouse but because it was such a dust bowl decided to push on and camp somewhere heading north west to Cook, taking in some caves along the track and a track it was! Wow..... rough and slow....120klm drive but for the first 60 odd klm we were averaging 5klm every 15 minutes! At least it wasn't wet but lots of rocks and uneven surfaces but our car and van stood up very well! After leaving Nullabor around 2.30 we pulled up just after 5pm and camped near Noels Caves, it is just amazing that there are caves just popping out of this flat, treeless plains like they ... read more

Got away from Gawler around 10am on 31st May and hit the road for six hours getting to Kimba at around 4.30. It was a good drive on a really lovely sunny day passing through Port Augusta and Iron Knob. Kimba is a rural service town and is one of the major wheat producing areas of South Australia. It is also the halfway point crossing Australia. We are staying at a free camp here (donation to keep all facilities going). It is the most amazing free camp I have been to, the toilet and pay showers are top notch and very clean, its Camp Kitchen is amazing, everything stainless steel, heaps of BBQs and washing up facilities. Its all housed in the showgrounds/footy grounds. Great spot for an overnighter. Took a walk after dinner to see ... read more

Back on the road again heading to Coober Pedy 195 klms dirt road but were told its really good, which it was a little surprise as we come closer to Coober Pedy we hit the bitumen about 40klms. This country is amazing with its changing landscape as we headed south. Spent the night in Coober Pedy and had a bit more of a look around that we didn't see on our trip there a couple of weeks ago. Booked into the Big 4 Caravan Park there dusty and dry and no water is for free in this town you have to pay at the filling stations, 20 cents for 30 litres so not too bad! We didn't need any as we still had a fair bit left. Dinner at John's pizza in town, not only pizza ... read more

Well to say we are having a ball is an understatement, we are enjoying the outback so much and the people you meet along the way make it even more of an adventure. We headed off from Coward Springs 10ish on Tuesday and drove the 275klm to Oodnadatta, all gravel, roads not great, lots of corrugation but we did make it! Only a couple of mishaps before we left Coward Springs had a very slow leaking puncture so John plugged that its going OK. Then when we stopped for lunch enroute to Oodnadatta found the contents of my freezer on the floor, thought the lock was good but obviously not, rattled open but don't think that will happen again, John had some extra strong tarzan velcro, well thats well and truly all over the fridge and ... read more

After arriving back to the van in Gawler, kept safe by Angie and Simon, after doing shopping for the trip north we were spoilt by Angie with gorgeous home made pizzas! Soo yummy! Thursday saw us get away by 10am....destination Rawnsley Park Station on the southern side of the Flinders Ranges not far from Wilpena! Lovely drive up took 6 hours with 3 stops along the way. Stopped for late lunch at Orroroo, lovely town, Gumtree Cafe was our choice with just the best home made pies ever washed down with a coffee. The scenery was always changing...with the Flinders Ranges always in our view! Pulled into Hawker to fill up 208.9 a litre, then only 25klms to the turnoff into the station, 4klms in we arrived at our camp for the next two nights! Rawnsley ... read more

Sunday had a walk into Alice Springs township...very quiet...but quite a few indigenous people about! Was going to walk on a bit more remote walking track but decided against it...too much bad shit happening in Alice at present! Last night witnessed an incident at Uncles Tavern, where we went for dinner. Asked them for IDs at door, no ID no entry, so proceeded to start throwing chairs at windows etc...police usually not good at attending as too many incidents but were quick on the scene to this one! All a bit scary...manager very apologetic to us but it's a daily occurrence in the Alice. Taxi straight back to the Hilton. Sunday arvo picked up at 3.30 to get back on Ghan, freshen up and change and out to old Telegraph Station for dinner under the stars, ... read more

Monday afternoon Outback Spirit Tours took us for an orientation tour of Alice Springs although we had done quite a bit of walking as well as a tour with the Ghan, it was interesting to hear different stories from Alice Springs and get to know our driver/guide Gary and another guide Kane, great blokes and we will have a great tour with these guys. Dinner was at the hotel Monday night and it was delish with a delicious piece of Wayghu beef with an entree and desert. Earlyish night as an 8am take off tomorrow in our monster bus/truck, its something else, quite new with only 30,000klms on the clock, a Mercedes truck with a small bus type set up on the back, lovely leather seats and everything onboard, iced water, big fridge full of food ... read more
