I think that the most lasting impression I will have of Sarajevo, and Bosnia Herzegovina in general for that matter, is that left by the Sarajevo Roses spread out throughout the city. A Sarajevo Rose is created when a mortar or artillery shell hit a piece of pavement. The force of the strike and the shrapnel create a flower like pattern and as the Government decided to fill in any of these spots that killed 6 or more people with red paint a shape not unlike a rose is formed. This along with the many pockmarked buildings from rocket fire and snipers bullets, are a very sad reminder of that shameful part of modern history. I arrived in Mostar, a city closer to the coast, at about 7pm and as there were no more trains to ... read more

When I had first planned to come to Tunisia I thought that it would be a short ferry ride from Italy and a refreshing break from Europe. It was a very refreshing break from Europe but the ferry ride proved much more difficult to organise than I had previously thought. We wanted to take a ferry from Salerno but soon found out that the only ferry was full. It went via Palermo in Sicily though and there were free seats from there to Tunis. We tried to buy tickets but it was "impossible" we were told. We quickly went to the train station and took a train to Palermo. As we had a few hours headstart on the ferry so we arrived early and ended up sleeping in the train station. The next morning we went ... read more

As the title suggests the main reason for this blog is to tell you about Pamplona and the running of the bulls but I'll start where our Spanish experience begun and that is in San Sebastian. San Sebastian Baz and I had 4 days in San Sebestian and the main thing on our agenda for those 4 days was relaxing at the beach and rewinding after our hectic France tour. Unfortunately Baz felt a little under the weahter for most of those days so we spent a lot of the time near our hostel. We did manage to check out the main beaches and get in a little body surfing and sun bathing so that was great, especially after being away from Cott and Scarborough for so long. :P JC joined us on our last few ... read more

The Adventures of Fatima and Ab-Joel I have wanted to go to Morocco for quite a while and in the last few weeks I spent a lot of time trying to find the cheapest way to get there. In the end the cheapest way I could find was to fly to the south of Spain and then catch a ferry across the Gibralta Strait. I asked a few people if they would like to join me and often people were very positive but in the end only Morgan (Fatima), an American girl from Texas, was game enough to come. We left on the afternoon of the 5th and caught a train to Bratislava (Slovakia). From the train station we got a bus to the airport and caught a flight to Frankfurt (Germany). We arrived about 11pm ... read more
