hi,
sorry it took me so long to reply, I haven't checked this very much recently. I really loved Zomba, I travelled there on my own and felt perfectly safe, it's a tourist destination so they're used to travellers, obviously take the same precautions you would anywhere, there's thieves and beggars around. As for driving, the main roads are fine, well paved and in good condition, it would be a long drive from Lilongwe to Zomba in one go, it's 5 hours or so to Blantyre from Lilongwe, then 1-2 hours from Blantyre to Zomba, but to be honest I travelled by minibus most places so I can't really advise about driving.
I hope that's useful and still in time.
Joe

The St John Lilongwe Office Be advised that St John Ambulance opened another office in Lilongwe at the Kanengo Industrial Site Off the M1 road as you are going to the Kamuzu International Airport and Mzuzu to your right. The office is open for anyone,it is located in the Limbe Leaf Campus through gate no. 2
Your last week Shame you didn't get to go diving, but at least you seem to have had a nice week and a chilled out, relaxed week to finish off your time in Africa.
