Hello, To start with I'm very sorry for anyone who was worried about me due to the lack of contact... I'm still very much alive and enjoying all the red wine, steak and tango I can get my hands on. You've guessed it I'm finally in Argentina the part of the trip I've been really looking forward to. But before I go into how much I love this country I'll fill you in on my activites since La paz and the worlds most dangerous road, which I survived yey! From La Paz I headed to South Boliva to vist Salar de Uyuni where I took a 3 day jeep tour around the salt flats and beyond. The scenery was breathtaking like nothing I've ever seen before. We started our tour on the salt flats which are ... read more

Hola amigos, I hope the weather back home isnt too bad...he he he! At the moment Im in La Paz, Bolivia. I´m staying in a hostel with its own brewery so we all get one free beer a night :) La Paz isn´t as scary as I thought it would be the only unerving sights are the shoe shine boys who run around wearing ski masks but only to protect themselves and thier family from the stigma attached to the job... even so I don´t think I´m going to start agruging if they want to shine my shoes! I went to the witches market today which basically consits of a group of shops selling potions, lotions oh and of course the obligatory dead lama fetus! Aparently they bring luck when offererd to mother earth and are ... read more

South America » Peru » Arequipa » Arequipa September 27th 2006

Hello, Just when you all thought I´de forgotten you I back with another thrilling entry!!! Well I made it to Cusco, I took an uneventful bus ride (over 30 hours) to Lima from there I cheated and flew to Cusco. I just could face another 30 hour bus journey. I spent a day and night in Lima looking for paddington bear...unfortunatly no bears to be found! But I did take an educational trip to the national museum and an equally educational trip to the local bar and club for you guessed it more salsa. I had a genius plan of going out all night before my 6 oclock flight to cusco instead of paying a whole 5 pounds for a night in a hostel (Im in real backpacker mode now). Not such a good idea when ... read more

Hello, Sorry guys for not writing sooner but Im still alive!!! Also sorry for the lack of photos Im hoping to rectify that soon. Well Ive finished my spanish school and unfortunatly I still can´t speak spanish but Im trying its coming out a bit Italian tho which has caused a few strange looks. I think my salsa is probably better than my spanish and the guys here really can dance!!!! Last week was spent learing spanish in the jungle, if theres a place to completely distract you from lessons and homework than the jungle is it. I spent my days trecking through the undergrowth of the amazon, fishing for Pirhanas and swinging on vines like tarzan. Although Im not a natural at jungle activites. I fell of the vine well slipped down and scraped my ... read more

South America » Ecuador » North » Quito August 19th 2006

Hola, I arrived two days ago! I feel quite fortunate to have arrived in one piece (ok slight exageration). My first flight was hit by lightning the second had to be diverted because of a volcanoe eruption... you know your in South America when the piolt annonces a change of plans because of volcanic activity! Since arriving I have spoke to quite a few travellers who were in the area of the volcanoe and had to be evacuated! I have to apologise as it seems like there won't be any pictures to go with this blog well not untill I come hope as I have forgotten by lead to upload the pictures... at least it wasn't my passport. This oversight might have had something to do with the mad rush the day of the flight (iun ... read more

Hello everyone, The count-down is on before I go away! I can’t wait now and I'm starting to get even more obsessed with South America than I was before...hard to believe I know! I'm not sure if this online diary is going to work for me as you all probably know me and technology do not mix but hopefully in a couple of weeks time, when I actually have something worth writing about, this online diary thing will be full of interesting anecdotes. Hope everyone is well and looking forward to getting you messages. Oh and don't forget me while I'm gone! Joanna x ... read more
