Join me as I ride gravel roads and forest tracks North from Jarbidge NV through Idaho to the Canadian border. One of many Backcountry Discovery Routes designed for motorcycles, it winds in and around the natural wonders of Idaho for 1,250 miles. I completed rides along two similar routes last year, one through the Mid Atlantic states, and the other through the North East. With the summer fires in the Lolo and Clearwater Forests mostly abated, the main threat now comes from a well known virus. Hopefully its reach is avoidable thanks to vaccines and the great outdoors. Now is the time to see Idaho, while I still can.
The blog starts with entries from my ride across the country, from Arlington to Boise. I followed US 50, a national highway that crosses our state a few blocks from my home. This old and well traveled route crosses the Alleghenies, the Ozarks, the Great Plains and the Rockies. I will follow it to Provo UT, where US 50 goes West to Nevada, and I head North to Idaho.
