Today i decided to visit the Mansa Devi and Chandi Devi Temples in Haridwar. I checked out of the hotel (Slipped a note to Oscar and Mireia under their door telling them where i was going and that i would be leaving for Richikesh that afternoon, i also told them the hotel i was likely to go to) and decided to stop and use the internet for an hour to email home and post the last blog. After about half an hour there as a power cut (happens at least once a day, often more) and i lost half my blog. The owner of the internet spot gave me a shrug so i just paid up and left, heading towards the first temple. When i arrived i bumped into Oscar and Mireia who were waiting in ... read more

Just got off the train in Haridwar, from where i had planned to go straight to Richikesh, however, it was already starting to get dark when i got off the train and so me and some others from on the train headed to a nearby hotel. Listed in the LP guide as 'mid-range' it was certainly a step up from my last room in Delhi but also a little more pricey. I managed to get the price down from 950 rupees to 700 rupees (da da da daaaaa) because i was alone and although air cooled just meant a ceiling fan and a fan in the window bringing in air from outside (i turned this off because it was actually heating the room), the room was actually far nicer. 3 times the size with a proper ... read more

Coming to the end of my first day in India. Since the last post i have managed to go on a hunt for food (failed to find the place i was looking for), given up finding food, gone to the station to buy a ticket to Rishikesh ( took a while to find the place but i didn't run into a single tout or scammer telling me it was closed/moved/burned down). It was the nicest room in Delhi so far, ice cold air conditioning and a big sign telling people to clear off once they have got their ticket, i'm willing to bet that the room would have been jam packed with people if the rule were not enforced. Then i decided to hunt for food again. This time whilst looking for a place to eat ... read more

And so I've arrived. Having had a last night of drinks with a few friends and saying goodbye to my family and girlfriend yesterday, i took the tube to Heathrow airport to catch the 21.30 plane to Delhi, checked my bag and waited for boarding, all with the feeling that it wasn't actually happening. Even throughout the 9ish hour flight, talking to Mr Subash and his daughter Aisawarya (best guess at the spelling there). I did think it was funny that the first two Indian people i met on my journey were actually from Canada and were wanting to go to Glastonbury. But all the time it didn't feel like i was actually going. Then the plane landed and i started to get a sense of where i was. Lots of people have talked about the ... read more
