Albany is quite a large town right on the Southern Ocean. Famous for it’s whaling history and fishing. We also discovered it is good for Strong Weather. As we drove, the winds were strong and the rain was coming down consistently. We pulled in at the Emu Beach Caravan Park and setup for the night. The kids enjoyed the smooth roads of the Caravan Park with their scooters (they haven’t had much action for a while) and jumped on the jumping pillow. BIG 4 parks are very good setups, unfortunately they are quite expensive. This was $70 for us to stay per night, powered site. That night the cats and dogs smashed at our roof and bed ends all night. Next morning we headed out early to the Southern Ocean side of the National Park to ... read more

We left Perth bright and early and drove up to Kings Park to visit the War Memorial and it also has the best view of Perth. The weather was kind to us again being sunny and 21deg. Kings Park is a definite visit just to get an appreciation of the city. The memorial is pretty awesome too. The parkland is the largest inner city park in the world, with walking tracks all the way through. There were many joggers, cyclists, mums with prams and tourists all enjoying the park. After a quick refill of the radiator, yes we are still losing water, we headed out for Fremantle. Just across the river “Freeo” is not unlike Port Adelaide with many old historic buildings. Our first stop was to find a double car park ???? As it was ... read more

Hey guys, it is starting to get a little colder as we travel south. We left Exmouth for Waroora Station, via Coral Bay. As we left, the weather went sour, showers and over cast. Not the best reef snorkelling weather, however that was not to deter us. Coral Bay was a bute little town, caravan park small little shops (including a Bakery!!!) It was busy with WA school holidays that had just started, but was not over run. After getting lunch from the Bakery, they have the best pies and lamingtons, we headed for the beach. They hire out glass bottom boats, canoes and boogie boards with glass windows. We had bought some snorkelling gear so we head 2 at a time out on the reef. It was very different coral. The coral was flower shaped ... read more

80 Mile Beach is one of the best places we have been yet. Jac and Matt gave it 10/10. Quaint little caravan park nestled amongst a cattle station, along a small red dusty access road, right on the beach. The majority were powered sites, trees and GRASS!!! Jac was in heaven. The people staying in the park were almost all ‘grey nomads’ and extremely friendly and more than happy to give you some fishing tips. Next day we drove along the beach for 14kms to our own patch of private beach and setup our fishing gear at the bottom of low tide. Tides that day was about 8m of change. The incoming tide is the best to catch the famous threadfin salmon, so we cast in our frozen pilchards on our lines and waited. And ... read more

Leaving Katherine behind, not really seeing much in the end apart from Woolies, Mitre ten and the servo ($1.55 for diesel). We had planned on showing the kids all the Katherine sites, but having lived there we were not fussed missing them. Besides it was great catching up with our friends instead. The scenery quickly changed and was spectacular! Large mountain ranges with rocky escarpments and valleys and lots of BOAB trees. We lived in Katherine for 2 & 1/2 years and never went West. Not sure why. It was very beautiful. Wish we had time to call into Victoria River Crossing. The Roadhouse was okay, $1.91 for diesel, so we didnt get any .. but from here you can do the many walking tracks through the ranges. Stunning scenery continued all the way to Kununara. ... read more

Kakadu to Darwin then Katherine Okay, so there is quite a bit of travel to be covered here. We would have blogged earlier, however we were BUSY in Darwin and there is no OPTUS coverage from Katherine to Broome. Maybe TELSTRA for then next outback trip .... So our last day in Kakadu we left our van set up at Jabiru and headed off to the East Alligator River. We checked out Cahill's Crossing which is the only access to Arnhem Land via road. The river was about 50cm deep, pretty easy for any 4WD, however we would have to get a permit to go into the brother's land. So we drove to the jetty to board the Guluyambi Boat Cruise. It was excellent, our guide, Neville, from Arnhem Land, took us down stream to Cahill's ... read more

Today we left Alice Springs heading north for the Devils Marbles. It was about a 400km trip. Getting there at 2pm we decided that we’d have lunch and then push on, to Tennant Creek. The camp ground was pretty busy and we figured once we’d seen his marbles there was not much reason to stay! We climbed the marbles and standing on top we could see thousands of acres of marbles ready to be explored. The marbles were formed when molten lava was pushed up from underground. Over time the ground around them has been eroded. We stopped in at Brenner Springs Roadhouse and checked out there famous hat collection and chowed down on some of their home-made sausage rolls! Fuel is getting cheaper, now $1.73 a litre!! After arriving in Tennant Creek, we tried the ... read more

Hello again. We left Coober Pedy and 'the brothers' this morning, what a dusty place that is. Onward to Curtin Springs.... past a few emus racing along the side of the road and also a HUGE Eagle, bravely guarding his road kill. Not much else to see along the way. Stopped at Kulgara Station for fuel, had to leave Jac in the shop for collateral just in case we drove off. Apparantly the station was infested with mice and stunk, glad i didn't have to go in. Almost at Curtin Springs Station and the kids yelled out "there is Ayers rock, we can see Ayers Rock"! Yes, we were all getting very excited, although I didn't think we were close enough. Later inspection tells us that it is Mount Connor an equally amazing rock formation, just ... read more

Hello again, Well we survived our first night in Woomera. The park was very basic but did the trick. First night away in the van, took a while to get sorted, but we finally managed to get Dinner, had a BBQ, not cold outside, quite pleasent, although it did get rather cold later at night. Thank god for the portable heater! Some awesome views of the Flinders Ranges on the way up. We drove along side them, they are very picturesque. Have to made a seperate trip there one day. We headed off for Coober Pedy about 9am the next morning, after a quick breakfast, forgot the milk, so toast it was!!! Stopped in at SPUDS Roadhouse for fuel ($1.69 per litre). We also stopped at "the middle of nowhere" (Matt's description) and had a kick ... read more
