Sunday 31st December 2006 For an 'alternative' New Year (instead of the usual pissed-up version) we decided to give 'Party Pills' another go (after getting advice on what we did and didn't want, based on last time). We took them and watched a Manga DVD called Appleseed, which borrowed plot from Greek mythology and was very deep... These party pills definitely had a more pronounced effect... The film took an extra hour to watch because of our constant pausing to discuss it... Then Lisa started feeling really ill - nauseous. I wasn't as bad, but did get a very hot/cold flushes and was immensely interested in the detail of everything - including a cat over the road (which I initially suspected to be a carrier bag) which I spotted out of the window and had to ... read more

I know it is late, but - Happy Christmas!!! Sorry to everyone I didn't get hold of. My phone died (killed by a car charger) a few days before Christmas and our home PC had got 'problems' so it was a bad timing. Here is a quick Xmas message I recorded in Cathedral Square. Sunday 24th December 2006 Sunday - Christmas Eve. I felt pretty rough and tired and had offered to cook Christmas diner for eight housemates! Lisa was feeling really rough and so spent most of the day in bed - so I really did cook for eight on my own. A lot of our housemates had been up all the previous night with us - so everyone was really tired and we all felt like we had peaked a day too soon! The ... read more

Saturday 23rd December 2006 Lisa and I had both talked about one of our goals of travelling was new 'experiences' and one we both wanted to try was something called 'Party Pills'. These are very popular in New Zealand - they are LEGAL herbal pills that are on sale everywhere. So Saturday we decided to try party pills as part of our experience of living like a typical Kiwi in New Zealand. The effects were pretty mild to start with.... We ended up playing midget golf all around the house (making up courses in every room) and then (with a few house mates) a combination game of charades, pictionary and towel-bum writing (writing a word with just a towel to cover your bum). We didn't sleep until 8am. So I guess you could say they had ... read more

Monday 11th December 2006 to Sunday 17th December Spent a nice Monday morning flying really high (highest glider up again) over the 'gut' on Port Hills, doing top landings. Then went and met up with Lisa, her co-workers (from Katmandu) and our two new German housemate girls (Marlene and Kira) and the Dutchies for a nice beach BBQ on Sumner. They said they had spotted a red glider over the Port Hills, that was me :-) Tuesday I went to work and afterwards met Lisa and a few other housemates at Govinda's for Yoga and food. I feel really good after stretching out and relaxing my muscles and the food (vegetarian three course) is great value. Wednesday was another full day at work, so I could get together enough hours to take off Friday too. Thursday ... read more

Monday 27th November 2006 to Sunday 3rd December It was a usual week (starting to get in to a routine) - work was fine, went to chiro and physio, went climbing at the Roxx, watched a DVD, spent time at the beach trying to play volleyball with some house mates. The highlight of the week was walking in to a smoke filled kitchen to see one of my house mates (never found out who, but have my suspicions) had left a pan on the hob. They had left it on so long that when Lisa picked it up to take it off the heat, the bottom fell out of the pan as molten metal and burnt through our work top! Thankfully we went in to the kitchen before going to bed! Our weekly eat-out treat was ... read more

Monday 20th November 2006 to Sunday 26th November 2006 I did some good flying, my longest single flight being over one hour soaring at Taylor's Mistake. I flew at a soaring site in Oxford (nearly an hours drive inland from Christchurch). I flew there with a group of Japanense pilots Dave had taken on a tour. Lots of gadgets - flight computers, etc and bad (flo colours) flight suits! We went to the cinema and watched Kenny - a spoof documentary, very funny. What was even funnier was that I told Lisa is was a true documentary. Her face when Kenny's Dad was so mean to him was a picture, she was so taken in!! LOL We also went for a nice hike from Taylor's Mistake beach, around the coast to the gun emplacements and back, ... read more

Monday 13th November 2006 to Sunday 19th November 2006 This week was pretty huge as it was Lisa’s 30th birthday on the 16th. We went out to the Honey Pot Café (another place on our Christchurch eatery ‘to do’ list) and stayed up on the 15th until midnight, to crack open some fizzy and celebrate the start of her birthday. In the morning of her birthday we were woken at 6am by her Granny calling from the States. I made Lisa breakfast in bed - cake (my first!). She is a big chocolate fan, so it was a chocolate cake with malteezers, choc chips, nuts and topped with strawberries and strawberry chocolate sauce. She opened all her presents in bed (she had parcels arrive from her family) For a birthday treat I took Lisa to Maruia ... read more

Monday 6th November 2006 to Sunday 12th November 2006 Another week of 25 hours flexible at work. The development I was doing wasn’t anywhere as complicated or challenging as my last two contracts, but it was reasonable money, a good team and great hours. I saw the physio and chiro at least once each, making slow progress, if any. I also went climbing at the Roxx with Lisa and Tim. It was good fun and stretched out my bad shoulder muscles. Our meal out that week was to Winnie Bago’s - nice, but not as good pizza as Cocopelli’s. A fabulous parcel arrived from Emma and Tam. It was Nige’s television debut on Discovery Channel in his very own show (see the trailer here) - Campervan Crisis! I watched all the episodes back to back. It ... read more

Monday 30th October 2006 to Sunday 5th November 2006 Had pretty good week, fitting 25 hours of work around flying and playing at the beach. Also gave Lisa a 'driving lesson' at Taylor’s Mistake car park. Didn't do too much flying as winds were picking up. I arrived at Taylor’s Mistake launch site to meet Dave and Alex. Alex was covered from head to toe in sheep shit - he had problems after top landing and had been dragged along through all the shit, poor bloke - but very funny! I did one flight and after having problems actually getting my feet on the ground we called it a day - time to go get a kite out! See the Chrsitchurch kite surfers here. Lisa was due to fly onto Oz that week but she decided ... read more

Monday 16th October 2006 to Sunday 23rd October 2006 Strange start to the week - I got awoken by a bearded lady asking me to do something about the guttering on the house across the drive that had blown loose and was threatening to fall down onto the driveway. She had tried their door but there was no answer. I just couldn't understand what she wanted me to do about it and why... I finally worked out she has to drive up and down the driveway to get to her house and she was paranoid it would fall off on her car... So still in my bed shorts I did a ‘monkey man’ moment and shimmied up the drain pipe, ripped off the guttering and threw it to the floor. My good deed done for the ... read more
